Guest guest
Ellen,Yes! It can change the colour. I would definitely keep going with the probiotic, but very slowly and small amounts. So slowly that you might take a fraction of the dose every few days. Increase as tolerated. Take epsom salt baths (2 cups to a very warm bath up to you navel, soak at least 10-15 minutes) to help with the detox.AmeliaTo: BTVC-SCD Sent: Sat, September 25, 2010 3:18:21 AMSubject: Green stool and probiotics Is it possible that introducing probiotic could cause a reaction of green stools? This happened to me when I first tried to introduce this probiotic and the green stools lasted for 2 weeks or so after i had the probiotic one time, but I had also increased the amount of avocado from a half a day to 1.5 so I figured it was due to the avocado, but now I'm wondering about the probiotic. I took a much much smaller amount of it, but I still got a die off reaction - sweating and increased bloating and gas. And I have been noticing my stools changing color, and today i recognized it as green. Does it make sense that it is from the probiotic? Thanks, Ellen
Guest guest
Ellen Although I haven’t experienced green stools myself, many people on SCD mention this during their first year on SCD. It is safe to say that during the first year on SCD, especially the first six months, you can expect changes in stool color and texture. Many times we can’t see a connection with a particular food or supplement, just an unusual color or texture. We go through an extended detoxification, so stool colors will change. And, if you are eating a lot of a particular vegetable, such as carrots or beets or zucchini, then you can expect to see a change in stool colors for a day or two. Probiotics will often trigger a die-off, so stool color can change for a day or two. Many times there will be a lot of white rhizome-looking blobs if you are dealing with a candida overgrowth. I wouldn’t worry about green stools, or any other color except very dark black or when you see blood. Or if you see a very unusual stool color that doesn’t change after a week or two, then you should check in with your doctor. For example, when I had bright canary yellow stools for months, but also had a lot of other symptoms, I checked in with my doctors, and, eventually, was found to have a blockage in my common bile duct. Guest guest
Thanks for this. It stopped being green, still getting some detox symptoms. And every other day BMS that are falling apart, and today lots of carrots in them. Hopefully all will be better soon and I can start wayy slower, with the smallest amount humanly possible. Guest guest
Thanks for this Kim. I've been saying to myself 'extended detoxifaction' and its made me feel better about this whole thing. And I just realized what you meant by " white rhizome looking blobs " I thought that was mucus. Sometimes attached to the stool sometimes floating on its own. Yup, I notice that a lot during detox, i guess that means I'm killing off yeast too, hopefully.
