I would accept nothing less than DDS. My doctor (Scannura) is very

dedicated to his practice and I would recommend him myself. Here is

the website for their office. They are the only oral and maxillofacial

surgeons here in Springfield, IL.

My doc is a DDS. He is the head of the department at The Cleveland

Clinic. I am very secure with his ability. He's been doing jaw

reconstruction/orthognathic surgery for over 20 years. On the other

hand, my original surgeon was a DDS with an MD. I didn't like him

because he was too inexperienced and he also wanted to do some

cosmetic things at the same time. Look more at their experience than

to what degree they have.

- - You are not the only one who does research on their Surgeons.

My Surgeon is both a DDS and a MD. He is board-certified in Oral &

Maxillofacial Surgery AND in Cosmetic Surgery. He has been performing

Orthognathic Surgeries for the last thirteen years. He received his

DDS degree from Creighton Univ. and completed his five-year OMS

Residency at the Univ. of Nebraska (only 2 Residents' positions

avail. per year). While in his OMS Residency, he earned his MD (one

of the only programs with a fully-integrated MD program), completed

one year of General Surgery training, and spent the last year as the

Chief OMS Resident. This Residency is one of the first in the U.S. to

integrate Facial Cosmetic Surgery into the program. He then completed

a one-year Cosmetic Surgery Fellowship at the American Academy of

Cosmetic Surgery in Washington state. VERY impressive!! He was my

OMS way before I learned all this about him; he performed a tooth

extraction on me in May. I have an underbite and will be having my

surgery in June. He will be doing a BSSO to set back my mandible, a

LeFort 1-piece to advance my maxilla, and some neck & chin lipo as

well. I would NEVER consider going to anyone else for my surgery. He

is awesome and I trust him completely. His name is Dr.

, MD, DDS and he is in Boise, Idaho. ~~~ Diane (Idaho)-- In
