Guest guest
It has been a long day, but I just wanted to give everyone a quick update & a great big thanks to everyone who called us in the hospital. got discharged today from Mt. Sinai. Not that the whole week wasn't stressful for us (6 days at the hospital), but the past few days almost did me in. I got the flu as well & was asked to not leave the hospital room for the past few days. Dr. H was gracious enough to call in Tamiflu for me a few days ago, but I had to go out in 16 degree weather feeling horrible with a fever to get it at the pharmacy a few blocks away. is much better, but still on some meds & nebulizer treatments. Today was quite stressful for me, and I finally had a meltdown this morning. I knew was going to be discharged today, but I also knew it would have to be early if I was going to get a flight. So, I pushed for all the doctors to get in there early. By noon, he was almost ready to go, and I called some airlines. The only flight I could get was a 1:45 PM one, which was pushing it. I booked the flight, and didn't get out of the hospital until 12:35 or so. Dr. H helped us out with our bags in the pouring rain & hailed a cab for us. The airline told me if I didn't get to the airport by 1PM, I would need to call & cancel my flight. I knew this would be a risk, because the weather was horrible. Well, we got there right at 1PM, but then luck us - we got selected for additional security screening. So, we had to go through a separate security entrance, they had to go through all of our belongings by hand (and you can imagine how much stuff we had) & then pat us both down. All this while we were both coughing profusely.... Then, they came across the syringes & stuff, and it took me awhile to find the note I had that said we were able to fly with them. We got to the plane just in time for boarding, which ended up being a little delayed anyway. I am sooooooo thankful to finally be home - this has been one experience which I won't soon forget. On another note, this is the first time I have ever had to book a flight so unexpectedly, and the rates were very high, which I didn't expect. We got great rates for round trip airfare originally - only $96 round trip per person including taxes. I ended up not flying back on the same airline, and now I have a credit with them that can be used within 1 year, and then I had to spend $420.00 for a one-way trip home. I also ended up paying for 1 extra night at the hotel that we didn't stay in (I got a refund for 1 night). I don't even want to see what these out of state hospital bills are..... Sorry for the venting!!!! But a great big thanks again for all the support everyone gave me while we were there - you all are like family! It will take me a while to catch up on the posts, but I do plan on reading them. Kim C.
