Guest guest
Congrats, Diane!! That is so exciting. I was just in your shoes 4 weeks ago, and now I'm only 2 weeks out from surgery. I can't believe it sneaks up so quickly once you have a real date. The time will just fly and before you know it, we'll both be recovering and enjoying our new jawlines, hehe. ~

Guest guest
Diane, That's great news. Congratulations on getting the date. Are you excited? My OD took my molds 4 weeks ago to see how my teeth and bite look. I haven't seen him since August and I won't see him again until October 7. I hope to get the same news as you at my next appointment. If that's the case, we could be surgery buddies. I've been in the same set of wires since July. The wait is excruciating!! Keeping my fingers crossed.... Kwan

Guest guest
Diane (Oregon) - Wow! Congratulations on your surgery date! I'd LUV to be your surgery buddy, but unfortunately I'm not quite ready, orthodontically speaking, for my surgery yet. Bummer! Yes, I wouldn't want the surgical wires and hooks put on too early either; I hear the hooks are a real pain to clean food out of. Looks like everybody's surgeries are getting done right on schedule; that means those of us in the Summer 2006 Surgery Group are inching closer to our big days too. WooHoo! I know that I'll be excited and nervous too, but I'll be a bit scared as well; I've never been under anesthesia for longer than an hour or two, and I've never had Hypotensive Anesthesia before. Actually, there will be alot of first-time experiences for me, including: jaw surgery, having my mouth splinted shut, NG tube, Foley catheter, liquid diet for four weeks, off of work for four to five weeks, surgery not done in my hospital(employer), etc. Actually, my OMS hasn't decided if I will need the LeFort, but he will make that determination in Dec. after he studies my mouth and teeth aligned in their arches, and another set of xrays (ceph and pano). Well, congratulations to you again.~~~~~ Diane (Idaho) :-)#) [bSSO+LeFort 1-piece : next June] > YIPPEE...My OD says I'm ready for surgery!! Guest guest
Hi Fran, I got my braces on March 14. I can't believe it's been six months already. My OD said I would be ready in about 8 months and he was right! I'm having my surgery at the Providence Hospital because it is cheaper for me than in Dr. West's surgical center because the hospital is a PPO on my insurance. It's crazy because overall the procedure is quite a bit more expensive at the hospital! I will definitely keep you posted as I go along. I got a call from my OD's office this morning and they said they will put my surgical wires on a week from today when they put my torquing (sp?) wire on the top. I asked if the OD realized my pre-op appointment isn't until 10/26, with surgery 11/17? I told her I was willing to come in for another appointment closer to that date! She'll get back to me. I'll be closely following as you and Beth continue your journey. Good luck to you with the braces! Guest guest
Diane, I may be mistaken, but I don't think you " practice putting on and taking off " surgical wires or hooks. Some hooks are very intrusive; otohers aren't troublesome at all. I was lucky in that I had nothing new, until a few weeks post op. Most surgical wires are very stiff and very much fixed in place, and not removable. If you're talking about the elastics, I doubt that your ortho or your surgeon are gonna want you fiddling with things that might make your teeth move in the wrong way before you have surgery. They do the models and practice surgeries so they'll know exactly what is the lie of the land inside your mouth. Correct me if I'm wrong. I've just never heard of removable hooks or surgical wires. Guest guest
Hi Diane, That is so fantastic! I thought it had been fairly recently that you got your braces! But you are right, it is hard to believe it has been 6 months. I remember when you first went to your consult with Dr West! lol Well, that gives me hope. I hope my time will pass as quickly as yours has. The down side of that is that they were accurate as to how long you would be in braces, and were correct. Don't get me wrong, that is GREAT for you! I just mean, that they told me it would be approximately 2 years in braces preop. I was hoping for some kind of reprieve, and a shorter preop time! lol Of course, aren't we all?? lol I am really happy for you. That means by Thsnksgiving time, you will be on the road to recovery and be able to eat turkey and all the trimmings! Hugs, Fran > > > > > YIPPEE...My OD says I'm ready for surgery!! Guest guest
Hi Fran, Don't worry. Time really flies! I started having my braces on since May 2004. I didn't plan to have a surgery at that time. After 17 months, I've just had it. It is quite unexpected, but I think it is good. So, I believe that your preop time will pass very fast as well. Just be a bit patient and that's it. Irene ^__^ > > > > > > > YIPPEE...My OD says I'm ready for surgery!!
