Dear DeJean,

So sorry to hear about the corroded band. I had open distal RNY so I

don't know what to tell you about that, but I am also an amputee due to

way out of control diabetes for years. I lost my leg (below knee) three

years ago and continued gaining weight (I had lost down, on my own, from

515 to 236 and was then on the gaining trend again, back to about 420

when I had my amputation).

I can assure you that walking on the prosthetic will be the biggest

freedom you can give yourself beyond the loss of weight. Both of those

items combined have given me back a real life. Last year at this time I

was still 100% in a wheelchair. It took me the full course of the year

to go from wheelchair to walker to 4-prong cane, to single prong cane to

free walking. Today I went out with my daughter and, for the first time

in my life, walked a mile. I must admit, I was exhausted when we got

home, but the furthest I had been able to walk up to this point was a

round trip of six blocks.

I hope you do whatever you need to in order to get you into that leg.

Once you manage the prosthetic, nothing will hold you back anymore.

Best of luck to you.

live each day like it's your last... love like you've never been hurt...
