Guest guest
Hello - I had a BSSO w/ split osteotomy on Aug 26th, and I got the green light yesterday to start chewing soft stuff. I just tried chewing for the first time last night, and I was almost in tears because it feels so awkward and wrong. I know my brain and muscles have to get used to this modified arrangement but it's really weird and doesn't feel natural at all. When does this new bite it start to feel right? Thanks.... Guest guest
Hi, I just got the green light to chew also. While it does feel weird at first, it gets better every time you chew. Now, I am not saying that it feels okay, but I attribute that to the numbness. I have only been chewing since Saturday (my OS told me 2 weeks ago that I could start chewing soft foods, but I just could not, it did not feel okay). So it may take a couple of weeks for you to work your way up to chewing things. And the things I chew right now are like Mc's Cheesburgers. So soft it all basically melts in your mouth. It is okay to say that you do not feel ready to chew. What matters is that you have been given the go ahead for when you do feel ready. Let me know if you have any questions. I hope this helps. Guest guest
Hi - I'm new here and six weeks post op - bilateral saggiatal split - my lower jaw was lengthened. The new position of the teet in my mouth also really feels akward - not necessarily bad, just still very new. I started chewing yesterday (and yes, the first thing I chewed was a mcD junior cheeseburger!)and especially the left-hand side of my lower jaw feels quite strange when i try to chew - kind of out of sync. It's also still a bit numb, so I can't really blame the poor jaw for not firing away and chewing without any strangeness. It helps to know that i'm not alone, though! good luck to my fellow new chewers... ;-) susan from south africa > Hello - > > I had a BSSO w/ split osteotomy on Aug 26th, and I got the green > light > yesterday to start chewing soft stuff. Guest guest
Thanks & Austria - It's so good to know that this feeling is normal! I guess I'll just have to force myself through the strangeness of it all in order to adjust, same as the first part of the recovery process. It's funny how you both are going for the McD's cheeseburgers! I know what to go for next Thanks for your words of encouragement, it's helped to lighten my gloomy mood. One day at a time, right?
