Guest guest
Hello, My original surgery was four months ago, I am pleased with the out come of the surgery as I have cheek bones for the first time in my life and my nose is no longer small and flat. Though as a result of the surgery I have a dent under each eye and they aer very noticeable. When I mentioned this to the surgeon he said that sometimes a revision is needed, but I wasn't told this before the surgery. The pharyngeal flap that I had in place to help my speech no longerworks and needs to be removed and re-done meaning another surgery. Right now the things on the surgery side that are still needed are lower jaw surgery, pharyngeal flap, fistula repair, dents, more work on my nose, lip revision and scar revision. Along with dental treatment. I see my surgeon on Tuesday and I am am going to ask how soon he can do the first surgery. We will also decide if the bone is string enough for him to remove the infected plate and screws. HAs anyone else had upper jaw surgery to be told that they need lower jaw surgery done? __________________________________________________
Guest guest
, I don't know if this will help but I will tell you my situation. My OS felt that I might have needed upper and lower jaw surgery. He took models and did fake surgeries on them to decide if he could get away with just the lower. As he explained the way he was trained for oral surgery, he prefers to do surgeries in steps. If I had needed both jaws done he would have done the upper first, allowed a healing period, and then followed with the lower. He feels that both jaws are more fine tuned doing it in seperate surgeries. Also, this keeps him from doing an additional surgery that maybe wasn't really necessary. In the end, he decided to do only the lower, based on the surgery models, and what results I really wanted from my surgery. I have a couple of questions though. Did your OS do mock surgeries on models beforehand? Did he ever give any indications that you may have needed both jaws done? Also, even though my OS did mock surgeries on my models, he said he couldn't tell exactly how my face would look afterward, only my bones. Part of his concern with me was that my chin wouldn't look right afterward because of all my previous assymetry. Two days before my surgery he warned that there was a possibility that I would need another surgery to repostion my chin. And by the way, my eyes seem to be set back more now also. I've noticed with eyeliner on it seems to intensify the deepset look. I hope all goes well. Keep us posted on what you decide to have done. Guest guest
Connie, My OS did mention that I may need both upper and lower jaw surgery, but after doing the models, x-rays, molds etc he thaught thta only upper was needed, and it would achieve everything I wanted done. He did say that sometimesit's better to do it in stages. __________________________________________________
