Guest guest
I had this exact discussion with our Orthotist at STAR band and came to know that the reason behind how low or high it is cut is the shape of the particular babie's head. Our daughter is getting a STAR band on 16th and her's is going to be more of a helmet type because she has a crown due to her Brachy. So the crown will be covered and this results in a more covered look of the helmet as compared to a Plagio helmet that does not need to cover the top portion of the head. Also we found out that a STAR band is about 2-3 ounces more heavier than the DOC band making it about 8-9 grams(STAR) compared to 6 grams(DOC). This is what gives them a leeway or thickness inside the helmet to finish the treatment in a single go. We confirmed with our pediatrician that the difference in the weight is not a big issue. We are going with STAR band because we didn't want a second helmet for our baby and want to get done with the treatment with one shot. Guest guest
This is helpful: I have asked our orthotist (Star Band) if he is familiar with cutting the helmet to look more like a band and he said he's not done it before but is open to trying. His concern is that it would give the helmet more wiggle room, therefore less room to work, and that he'd then have less room to work with in terms of adjustments as our son grows. Our son does have plagio though, so I'm wondering if cutting it would make much difference...
Guest guest
I find this information very interesting. My son is getting scanned on Monday so we should have his band in a few weeks. I had heard that they some were cut low-profile, but forgot to ask our orthotist how she did that. So, we still don't know what's going to come out looking like, but it's very interesting nonetheless. Thanks! > > > I had this exact discussion with our Orthotist at STAR band and came to know that the reason behind how low or high it is cut is the shape of the particular babie's head.
