Guest guest
Hi , My name's sarah i'm 20 yrs old and four month post-op from ognathic surgery. I was born with a cleft lip and palate and as a result of my cleft my upper jaw stopped growing. I also had a very small, flat nose that needed to be corrected. I wore braces for 10 months before the surgery and will have them on for another 6 months. I was very nervous about the surgery and was dreading the recovery but I was also very exited as the surgery was going to make a big difference to me. I had my upper jaw moved forwards and down, major nose reconstruction, cheek bone surgery and bone graft. It was a long surgery and complicated but my surgeon did a wonderfull job. I am a lot more confident now and I will have my photo taken, before the surgery I wouldn't let anyone take a picture of me. Guest guest
you look pretty! Here's my wonky face in all its glory http://www.livejournal.com/users/miramanga/123864.html --- memphis_tiff wrote: --------------------------------- Kwan, Your scenario sounds so very much like mine that it's spooky! I am having nearly the same procedures to solve the same problems, so that's reassuring that our different doctors must know what they're doing and agree. I will be having my surgery in just 10 days. Yikes! I'm really looking forward to fixing the problems though (the clicking and popping as well as the asymmetry). I have been thinking about the surgery for about 10 years, too (I'm 28) and yeah, my teeth look a mess right now since they're lined up properly on my jaw, but my underbite sticks way out further than it used to (when my teeth crowded up under the upper teeth to compensate.) I wonder how much your jaw looks like mine. Here are a few photos of my wonky face: Bad picture, yuck: http://gspence.smugmug.com/photos/23454145-M.jpg Same night, but not so bad, hehe: http://gspence.smugmug.com/photos/23454154-M.jpg I have made a habit of turning my left side to the camera to hide the asymmetry and will be really eager to see post-op if I have to do this anymore. My OS is planning to remove bone from the left side, and said he might possibly graft some it back on to the right side if needed to make it more symmetrical. While I'll be glad to have my bite fixed and all, the most exciting part will to be the new shape of my face. I just hope I like it!! Hope you get to find out soon when your surgery will be! ~
Guest guest
While we're all posting pics of our facial assymetry, I thought I'd post one as well. Pic is attached Mira Manga wrote: you look pretty! Guest guest
, You look great! Your lower jaw looks exactly like mine in the mirror since my right side is longer but I think my underbite is much more pronounced that yours. I have my pictures (before braces) uploaded to the group photos section, folder Kwan. I kept saying " Me too " while reading your message. It gave me chills. Not sure if it's because of the air-condititoning though . I always hide the asymmetry by turning my face a little to the right when taking pictures since my underbite on the left side is worse. I do this so often that one of my friends asked why my pictures always had only one angle of my face. he he he. You're having the surgery in 10 days!! I'm so excited for you. Good luck with your surgery. I wish you a smooth and quick recovery. Keep me posted. Kwan
