Guest guest
Hi Amy, Our son developed an infection after starting his second helmet. It was diagnosed secondary to cradle cap. Our doctor prescribed an antibiotic ointment which we applied 2x a day. I also stepped up the cleanliness of the helmet with washing his helmet not only with shampoo but also with rubbing alcohol to kill any germs/bacteria. I had seen quite a few recommendations on the listserve for using rubbing alcohol. Because of concern with the warm/damp environment the helmet creates our orthotist also drilled some small holes into the back of the helmet to allow more heat to escape (we have a Becker helmet). All of this seems to have improved the condition. Hope this helps. Sincerely, > > Has anyone had any experience with fungus on the head under the helmet? Guest guest
, Thanks for the recommendations. I will definitely ask the orthotist to drill more holes--great idea. I also realized that the rubbing alcohol that I have been using lately is only 70%, not the 91% that I had been using. This may have had something to do with the bacterial/fungal growth? I've also been cleaning the helmet more vigorously in hopes of removing more bacteria and 3x day. The Selsun Blue is working great. It has an anti-bacterial agent in it. I wish I could use it on daily, but the ped says only once every other day. Thanks again for your help! Amy > > > > Has anyone had any experience with fungus on the head under the helmet?
