Guest guest
Well, I don't have specific procedure names, because he didn't tell me, hehe. But I got some basic info, and I go back to see him 2 days before surgery for general surgery info, my physical, etc. I'll ask final questions then. But for now it was good to know what they'll be doing. On my maxilla they will be moving it up to show less front teeth when I smile, and move it out about 2-3mm. He said this will widen my nose a little, which I'm a little leery about, but it didn't look bad in the mirror when he showed me, just different. I'm sure it'll balance out with my new jaw in the end, and I trust his and the other OS's opinions. They will be moving my mandible back to correct my underbite, and rotating it to line up my midlines (now 2-3mm off). They didn't decide which procedure to use; either BBSO or IVRO(?) because they'll decide when they actually open me up. I also have an asymmetry issue with my mandible, where one side is longer, fuller and more rounded, and the other side is shorter and flat. He said they will probably remove some bone from the long, rounded side to be more symmetrical, and possibly graft it onto the weaker side if needed for balance. They did a few bite molds and hooked me up to some weird, medieval-looking contraption that went in my ears, had a bite plate, and balance on my nose to measure the angle of my upper jaw...which was quite funny to myself and my husband. He said I will be getting a splint, but he wasn't sure of fixation yet. He sounded like he was leaning toward rigid, but he didn't want to commit to anything in case they change it during the surgery. I was there for quite a while, and spent a lot of time being poked and prodded and stared at (gah!!) so it's all a little blurry now. But I'm feeling pretty good about the whole thing and can't wait for it to be over with...just 2 weeks! ~
Guest guest
Congratulations, on getting closer to your surgery date. I wish you the best of luck! I go to the OD tomorrow to find out the results of my molds taken about 10 days ago. They keep saying I'll be ready for surgery late-fall. I'm excited and nervous. I just want to get it over with. The lady at the OD's office said he wanted me to come in to have my wires changed and talk with me. I'm not sure if the wire change is a good sign or not. We'll see. I haven't had any adjustments in about 10 weeks. Guest guest
Hi Diane! Thanks! Sounds like you're just about ready, too! My last wire change was4 weeks ago, and my OD told me 6 weeks that day. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you and hope it's good news. ~ > Congratulations, on getting closer to your surgery date.
