Guest guest
My twin boys got their docbands at 12 months. I never knew that was considered " late " until I read this board. They were both classified with mild to moderate plagio. One twin had more pronounced bossing in the forehead, the other had a flatter spot in the back. They got their helmets on June 17 and we've had no problems. They started on a two week fitting schedule but were switched to three weeks as of the last 2 visits. My problem is that we moved a 9 hour drive away from Cranial tech. It's a 1.5 hour plane ride. We moved due to financial hardship and we can't afford to make the trip back till next month. (The 17th of this month would be our 3 week appt.) My tech gave us the following two options: wear the helmets till the 24th of this month(she said that was the safest we could go without a fitting) and come in the first week of October for our final appointment and measurements. She said that they could wear them another 3 weeks after that and save a trip back because they'd be considered " graduated " . Our other option is to wear the helmets until the 24th of this month and then just be done with them. We wouldn't get the exit appointment and final measurements but we would be saved a trip. I want the final appointment to get results, but I don't know that it's worth it. I don't know how the boys will take being out of the helmets for a week to 10 days and then have to put them on again, especially at 15 months old. I also wonder how much change we could expect in those final three weeks. Their heads have improved, although not perfect. They weren't very bad in the first place. I think one was 6mm assymetry and the other was 8mm at the beginning of treatment. We are just in a tight bind financially and the trip will cost us quite a bit. Even if we drive, it's so hard on the kids for such a length of time. I really want those final numbers. I don't know how much difference the last 3 weeks would make. What would you do? By they way, I haven't even told my husband because he would just quit on the 24th. He didn't want the helmets to begin with and only attended the first fitting. Sorry this in long and thanks in advance.
