Guest guest
I think it depends on the symptom. I get nausea and uncomfortable gas, as well as a runny nose sometimes, right after I eat something that doesn't agree with me; an increase in pain and loose stools usually follow within a day and then systemic, inflammatory symptoms such as diarrhea and shivering/sweating take another few days. fiona > > > > How long after you eat the offending food do you usually get the symptoms? Guest guest
I can tell I am not tolerating something within a couple hours. I bloat right up after about a couple hours, and then get a burning in my gut/left side for about a day, then D right away or the next morning. The longer I am on the diet though, the less severe the side effects are! And then I know what to stay away from for a while. I can definately tell my gut is healing though, as I am tolerating food in general so much better! 11 Weeks SCD > > How long after you eat the offending food do you usually get the symptoms? Guest guest
Hi , It is good to give yourself 3 days just to be sure. But I think the important thing is knowing your body. For instance, like , I can usually tell that day! But that is because I know it comes out of me about 6 hours later- I can usually spot the offender But, for instance, you could develop a rash a few days later so it's good to give it time and keep a journal -Joanna SCD 9/2009, Crohn's 1992, 20mg Prednisone > > > > How long after you eat the offending food do you usually get the symptoms? Guest guest
I'm very similar to Kelley in that it takes me several days sometimes to get sick. So I will wait about a week, if only because I want some time off when I feel better until the next trial. It took me a long time to figure out that wheat bothered me because it didn't make me sick that day, the next or even a week later. But over the course of a month, I would get very bloated, tired, etc. Most foods that bother me take 2 or 3 days before I get sick. So, anyway, for me it has been a little tricky to figure it all out. I wait longer than 3 days between introducing new foods, more like a week. Constipation is one of my symptoms. It seems like if I eat something that my body doesn't like, it just stops moving things through for a bit and then a few days later clears it all out. People who have diarrhea instead probably get quicker feedback about the foods they eat. Kelley
Guest guest
Thank you all for your responses to this question. Kelley, it's always nice to hear someone's experiences who also suffers from the big C, instead of the big D. What do they say about how long to wait to add things back, a year after you have no symptoms? If that is the case, I am beginning to understand that. Right now, my flare-ups are so erratic, sometimes I can't figure them out. I haven't even made it to the 3 month level everyone talks about yet. After having cramping in bed for a couple of hours one night (which is not one of my regular symptoms), I have begun a food diary. Thanks for all the advice and help this group provides.
