Guest guest
Hi Connie, My surgery was July 8. Three weeks ago today! I have an orthodontist appointment on Monday, and if all goes well, I'll get the splint out then. (Since I'm in Montana and had surgery in Seattle, the three-week post-op appointment is at my orthodontists'. I go back to Seattle for the six-week appointment.) I had initially thought I had to wear the splint for six weeks, but my surgeon said three. I don't know what's typical, but one thing I've noticed is that every surgeon seems to do things a little bit differently. And it probably varies depending on the procedure and maybe severity of the correction. Did your doc tell you when yours would come out? I have been allowed to chew since Day 1, anything the texture of scrambled eggs, my doc said. However, I found chewing painful at first and I still find it awkward and difficult, so I mostly avoid it. As for talking, I was understandable from Day 1, although I initially had problems with " R " and general enunciation. Now I'm talking almost completely normally, though. Having said all that, I can't WAIT to get the splint out. I think it's very annoying. Hang in there! Luna
