Guest guest
LOL. Thank you for that! Having never been a real fan of pain, I try to skip the sledding and tubing. I flew off of a tobogan when I was about 12. Haven't been on anything that glides through the snow since. Well, unless you count all the times my shoes decided to become ice skates. I'm not the most graceful person in the world! I fall like a cartoon character. It ain't pretty! LOL Anyways. I took my dog out last night at around 9:10 p.m. and had that strange feeling you get sometimes when someone is watching you. You all the know the feeling, I'm sure. I squinted my eyes and looked across the yard and what a beautiful sight! Two deer had bedded down under the line of poplar trees that separate our property from our neighbors. We stared at each other for quite some time and trying to contain my excitement, I slowly opened the door to call for my daughter. Finally after yelling at her THREE TIMES, the deer spooked and ran off. I WAS SO BUMMED! I kept looking for them out the window and when they weren't there, my heart sank. I was afraid I had scared them off for good. Finally at about 10:30, I looked out my window and caught the tail end of a whitetail crossing my back yard. I called for and we watched them wander off into the other neighbors yard. (She lives so close we could shake hands from our windows.) When I took our dog, Ozzy, back out at 11:00 there were 3 doe standing not even 15 ft. away from us. Ozzy NEVER saw them. He's not the sharpest tool in the shed. Low and behold, I was witness to something I never dreamed I'd be witness too. A deer taking a dump in my lawn. Right before my very eyes! It's kind of a strange sight, actually. I can die now. I believe that my life is complete! LOL Just kidding. Anyways, it was a very interesting night. I hope they come back every night. They are such graceful and majestic creatures. How people kill them, I will never know. Mind you, we live in a very populated area. I'm just glad they made it through hunting season, which ended yesterday! Hooray for them! Merry Christmas! We got about 15 inches, winds were gusting to 40 mph (Hurricane force winds over Cape Cod), snow falling at 2 inches per hour, white outs etc. All in all a great day. and I went snow tubing during the height of the storm. The snow was too fluffy, so we didn't stay out more than an hour or so. Not too many cars off the road, just every other one we passed. So, to make up for the poor outing on Friday, we went today also. Conditions were great. temperature was perfect, the snow packed just right, we were flying down the hill. There were a lot of other people there as well. I did learn this today. Four year olds can best be described as Snow Tubing's little speed bumps. If you hit them while they are standing, they do fly a ways. They bounce pretty good though. Teenagers can aslo be considered as snow tubings bowling pins. They don't fly as far when you hit them but they are more acrobatic. I don't know why their boots come off so easy though. If you want a better description, just watch America's Funniest Home Videos. Otherwise, we had a great day. I don't think I will need any stitches, my ribs should heal soon, I will have to write with my left arm for a few days and long as doesn't have a doctors appointment, we won't have to explain his bruises. Looks like it will be a great winter. Ken M
Guest guest
Ken - what a WONDERFUL post. I loved it! Thank you so much. I love laughing - it's so refreshing. You are too funny. I'm glad you had such a wonderful time. I can just see the smiles and laughter - it warms my heart. THank you. I took and Ian sledding at our neighbors house and the boys love it. Xander started laying on his back in the big sled - like a bobsledder. It was so cute. - H > > Hi Everyone, > > I just wanted to share a little of our day of snow tubing. > > Friday, we had a little snow storm here in New England. Guest guest
Jeanie - when we lived in Pennsylvania - we had quite a spread of land at the time and we would get up to 30 deer in a day. It was beautiful to watch - especially when the doe and her fawn would meander near the wood shed. I concur - deer are so graceful. We used to tell the hunters they could hunt - but, not near our home. I think all the deer would hide-out on our land! Thanks for the beautiful story. - H > Hi Everyone, > > I just wanted to share a little of our day of snow tubing. > > Friday, we had a little snow storm here in New England. Guest guest
Ken, it was a fun one here in MA too....we actually had thunder and lightening while it was snowing. ONe of the employees (in a ploy to appeal to an early release) sent an email to the vp titled " Our employees trying to find their cars and go home " - it was a blank page of paper > > Hi Everyone, > > I just wanted to share a little of our day of snow tubing. > > Friday, we had a little snow storm here in New England. Guest guest
Hi , I was wondering how you were doing in this storm. It certanily was a bad one. Lots of trees down from the high wind. It will be a few more days beforwe everything is cleaned up.
