Guest guest
I keep reading posts about genioplasties and I looked it up on the internet but I am still confused as to what it is. I don't even know if my surgery was considered one. I had lower jaw advancement (BSSO..whatever that means) but no chin implant.
Guest guest
Genioplasty is where they slice off your chin and slide it forward (can also reduce it before replacing it). A chin implant is something different (adding to what's already there). Unless your surgeon told you so, you probably didn't have genioplasty. It's not necesssary in all cases. After surgery, I had this thick piece of tape on my chin, meant to hold the muscles in place for a few days while things healed up. > I keep reading posts about genioplasties and I looked it up on the > internet but I am still confused as to what it is. Guest guest
A genioplasty is when they cut the tip of the chin and " slide " it forward or backwards. I had mine moved forward, then secured with a plate and screw. Your doc would have suggested it in combination with your BSSO (bilateral sagital-split osteotomy) if it was " needed " . The " need " is usually cosmetic to a degree. Some insurances will not pay for it. Hope this helps you to better understand things. a > I keep reading posts about genioplasties and I looked it up on the > internet but I am still confused as to what it is.
