Guest guest
Hi Mindy, I'd have my doubts about therapy to allow your lips to meet if they don't do so now. Has your surgeon recommended this treatment? I did have genio done at the time of my upper/lower surgery since my surgeon said my existing chin would be too strong once things were adjusted. I think I had a sliding genioplasty but I'm not completely sure - I do know that he took 4 mm off, and then moved it forward 7 mm. But I also had a gummy smile, and the upper surgery definitely helped with the lip competence (7 mm up in front, 5 mm up in back). My lower was advanced 5 mm. I was a life long mouth breather. I remember, as a child, my sister used to come to my bed and try to force my lips shut as I was noisy breathing in my sleep. Now, everything closes naturally and I breathe through my nose, so things get filtered a bit. It's much better for my gum health too. Hope that helps, > Has anyone heard of this? Or knows anyone that has done this treament? > Here's a link: http://www.srcoulson.com/myology.htm > I was wondering about this because I am a mouth breather. Guest guest
, I was looking up something about genioplasty and I came across the subject. I've never heard of it, but I know it falls under the category of speech therapy (which I had when I was a child and think i could probably use again). I read somewhere that the upper lip is very flexible and can be " stretched " . I don't know if that's just for children or if it can work on adults. My next step for me is to get my braces off. Then, I think I'll get the genio done. After that, if my lips don't meet, I'll check into this and ask my surgeon about it. I don't have anymore checkups with my surgeon for my jaw surgery. So you had your chin reduced? I still don't have much of a chin and I still don't breathe through my nose because my lips don't meet yet. I guess I'll get the genio done. Then I'll see what the results will be and then hopefully my ultimate goal of breathing thru my nose will be reached! I did post some recent pics. Mindy > > Has anyone heard of this? Guest guest
Hi Mindy, I didn't think I had that much of a chin, but my surgeon said it was strong, so that's why he modified it. It's definitely more prominent now than it was pre-op. I can't bury it in my neck flesh anymore! I looked at your photos - wow - you had a lot of movement! Once you get the braces off, you may find that your lips close a bit better. Not a lot, but better. It's hard to wrap your lips around all of that hardware. I suppose it couldn't hurt to try that treatment. Or have the genio. > , > I was looking up something about genioplasty and I came across the subject.
