Guest guest
, The adenoidectomy is very similar in pain and discomfort to having the tonsils removed. I would imagine that an overnight stay would be all she needs so long as she is eating something and not in too much pain. I know, I know...it's just something else she has to go through. I feel so badly for these kids and all they have going on. (Make sure they send her home with Tylenol with Codeine.) One thing I want to mention, however, is the effect that removal of her adenoids can have on Emerence's speech. Does she have a high arched palate? Is there any weakness or insufficiency? Max had his tonsils and only part of his adenoids removed and we had a big problem with nasal air emissions when he talked. It took intensive and long speech therapy to teach him to eliminate that and strengthen the area again. I believe this happened with Salem as well. And a few others. We were lucky because the ENT realized during surgery that taking more than he did would lead to major problems for Max, so he just " cleaned them up a bit " to us his words. I hate to give you something else to worry about, but I would not be doing you any service if I did not inform you. Jodi Z
Guest guest
Hi, It is something I will be talking about again with the ENT. I really love the ENT, she has been great and we have had her since Emerence was about 6 months old! She has been very very cautious and wanted to wait on the partial adenoidectomy until Emerence weighed more (she hit 25 so she felt okay to go ahead and do it). She actually even wanted to wait and see the xrays we took last week and then really decide for sure whether to do a partial adenoidectomy. To have her come back after seeing them and recommend complete removal, to me, means she really thinks there is a problem. I am very nervous about this because I think whatever I do there will be p roblems afterwards and I will wish I had not decided whatever I decided. I have always thought Emerence also breathes too much through her mouth at night and she doesn't sleep well so maybe that will help this as well. AGH. Tough decision. Would love to hear from anyone else who had speech difficulties after adenoidectomy... > > , > > The adenoidectomy is very similar in pain and discomfort to having > the tonsils removed. Guest guest
Hi , na had her tonsils and adnoids taken out at mass eye and ear. We stayed one night. the doctor was so good he had an iv running the whole time as a phamplet i got off the magis site when we had it down. the doctor checked the Magic site and called for information. he was the best, he spoke to her. She lost a pound but after 14 days she gained a half then another half a month later. Good luck that will be nas 5th Birthday. Externally he said her legs line up and that measuring won't tell if there is asymmetry either. Hmm, not sure what to think about this one. We have seen him twice, I don't love him but he is okay I guess, and he quizzed me closely about why Emerence had 2 bandaids (princess ones) on her fingers (answer: for decoration, she thinks they are like stickers...I guess I had better figure out how to stopt his fast or I might be in trouble!) Ear tubes #4 are scheduled for Jan 5. I figured since my husband is out of the country visiting his family that I would schedule the surgery for then. After the first set I told him not to worry about coming with me because the wait was so short. Well, she was supposed to have a partial adenoidectomy IF the xrays showed them to be positioned in a way that would promote bacteria growth (ie ear infections). I figured that would be easy to handle by myself since it was just another 20 minutes wait. We had her xrays taken last week and I sent a note following up to her ENT about what she thought. She just responded that Emerence now needed FULL removal of the adenoids because they were moderately enlarged. And, she had a particular anesthesiologist commit to come in on her day off (she is a specialist in pediatrics with lots of experience and they work well together - and Dr. Chong (ENT) feels the anesth. will be very careful with the SGA issues.) Anyone here have kids with full adenoidectomy (I asked about partial earlier) and how long were they in hospital afterwards? THANKS! , mom to and Emerence
Guest guest
, Sounds like you've been through soo much...well, Emerence too! Our Ortho also told us that x-rays of the limbs were useless at this time and we had to wait...I'm surprised they did them on Emerence. We have not had the ear infection problem, but I can only imagine what it must be like to have to take her all the time for tubes, etc. And, I don't have any experience with the Adenoid thing, but I'll pray for all to go well. Did Emerence have to be seen by an ENT before they found the ear problem or did the Ped. pick up on it right away...the reason I ask is because I am taking Dalia for an audiology test since it seems like she can't hear me all of the time...maybe she is ignoring me (very possible) but when I talk loudly she listens perfectly..anyway, I thought also that maybe her ears were clogged, but the Ped. looked and said no.. Take care up there in snowy country... Guest guest
Hi, we have had the same ENT since Emerence was about 6 m onths old, we love her! She will have the surgery at S Shore hospital. She is our only specialist that is not at Children's but I do not want tleave her. How is BRianna gowing - any more? How long were you at home with her? > Well, after all the hullabaloo, the ortho is saying that the > scanogram xray they took of her leg showing .2 cm shorter on each of > the left long bones is worthless, that it is only after kids are > older can they tell if there is a difference. Guest guest
Kids don't have to get the ear infections to have hearing problems. They can get otitis media with effusion. Basically fluid pools behind the ear drum. Instead of draining, it becomes stagnant (and sometimes festers - ie ear infection) an then the water drains and leave the rest of the " stuff " behind and it becomes like jelly/glue and affects hearing. Have them check for that. Hearing tests can also be hard at this age since they have to follow directions from strangers, all while being quiet. Just a heads up you should leave Hannah at home or bring someone to watch her int eh waiting room. You might need to go in with Dalia and be quiet so a little sis might not be the best > > > > Well, after all the hullabaloo, the ortho is saying that the > > scanogram xray they took of her leg showing .2 cm shorter on each > of > > the left long bones is worthless, that it is only after kids are > > older can they tell if there is a difference.
