Butter is much better for you than margarine. (Butter contains no lactose and has good nutrients.) I personally wouldn't take a chance on either of those margarines.n-- Now available. I would not recommend any margarine.A good substitute for butter/margarine if you're really sensitive to dairy, is coconut oil. For baking you can get refined coconut oil that is flavorless, or unrefined Virgin coconut oil that has some coconutty taste to it (quite nice depending on the dish!).

A good substitute for butter/margarine if you're really sensitive to dairy, is coconut oil. Or cocoa butter! You could mix the two, since cocoa butter's more expensive, but the cocoa butter is much more solid than coconut oil and would probably give the final fatty result a more buttery consistency =) Cheers!Alyssa 16 yo UC April 2008, dx Sept 2008SCD June 2009 (restarted)Prednisone 10 mg 1x per day (trying to wean!!!!)

Hi Karianne,

Even if margarine was legal, its not exactly the best stuff for you anyway.

When we were dealing with dairy issues with my daughter we did the coconut oil.

For baking it tasted 10 times better than butter and was much sweeter. You will

use a little less than the recipie calls for and if you are baking, it will bake

quicker than butter
