Guest guest
Ha, ha - you said it! " Calm down and be patient. " As you know from reading posts, this diet is 3 steps forward and 2.5 steps back! You are SO new to it- just keep sticking to it and things will normalize a little more. The beginning is also when you will see so many changes because your body is adapting to its new way of eating. Congrats on getting some great results and " keep on keepin' on " ! -Joanna SCD 9/2009, Crohn's 1992, 20mg Prednisone > Has anyone else had the same cycle? Guest guest
Kelley, Does that mean that you are having normal BM's and only when you eat something that doesn't agree with you, you get constipated? And this starts your 10 day process? I am interested to know b/c we both have Celiac's disease and am thinking that this _might_ be what is really going on with me. Thank you! > > A reaction like that for me would mean I ate a food that didn't work > for me. I will get constipated/just not go for several days and then > clear out. Guest guest
Yes, normally I go daily, but if I eat something that doesn't agree with me I will skip many days in a row, I will be bloated and gassy, I will then have several normal BMs in a row then diarrhea and more rarely vomiting, then sometimes a few more days of not going before I return to normal again. The whole process can take about 10 days or so before I return to normal again. The severity of the symptom can vary depending on whether I ate the offending food just once or if I had it several times over the course of several days (which often happens if I am eating leftovers). It took me a long time to figure it out b/c i assumed a reaction would be more immediate, but for me that just isn't the case. Or I guess I should say it this way.....I thought I would have diarrhea immediately if a food didn't agree with me. I was tracking the diarrhea as a symptom more so than the " not going " . Now I pay attention to the " not going " b/c it is a much earlier sign of things to come. And sometimes if I pay attention to the bloating and not going, and stop eating the food in question, I can avoid the diarrhea later. As I progress on the diet, I add just one food every couple weeks b/c it does often take so long for me to notice a reaction and then to have it clear up before I move on. I have been trying to figure this out for about 8 yrs now and feel like it is really a process of getting to know your own body and how best to care for it b/c there really isn't a " one plan fits all " . Writing things down really helps to figure it out. Guest guest
This is very good information to know! I have been keeping a food journal every day since I started SCD. One thing I am not sure I mentioned was that this cycle started day one of my diet. I started out constipated and nine days later diarrhea. So, is it _really_ something I am probably eating or just my body getting used to the diet? And if it is the diet, what days should I look at for problem food? The day before or the day of the diarrhea? Thank you everyone for your feedback! Much appreciated!!! > > > > > > A reaction like that for me would mean I ate a food that didn't work > > > for me. Guest guest
I have a similar cycle of increased constipation when I eat a food that my digestion can’t cope with (I don’t get the diarrhea unless I’ve overdone the prunes or Miralax), and it often takes 7 to 10 days before my digestion stabilizes again. It can also be connected to a supplement that impacts my nervous system. And I’ve also learned that I have neurological “crashes” occurring on a regular cycle that always impair my digestive motility for a few days. So it isn’t always a food that triggers the cycle of digestive distress. Keeping a log helps, especially in the early months on SCD, and when you are trying a new food or supplement or medication, or are noticing another type of pattern to the digestive upsets. Kim M. Guest guest
I do this cycle thing too, and have yet to figure it out.Thankfully I don't have the severe D like before I started SCD, but I will go from soft, to trophy, to C. At this point a little " SCD protocol " prune juice ( I boil it down to half volume) does the trick. I have not related it to any foods yet, but it tends to happen when my routine gets interrupted- like with traveling and such, or if I eat too much of a food. I was diagnosed with " mild UC " after a bout of D, but I have always wondered about gluten intolerance but as BTVC says- all gut dysbiosis leads to the same symptoms. Still can't figure out the cycle thing, but it seems that I am not the only one here that does it. PJ > > Hey All, > > First off, I want to say thank you to everyone that posts to this board. I am so happy that I was able to almost immediately make my symptoms stop after only 24 hours of being on the diet. > > But, after 9 and now 18 days of being on the diet if have had diarrhea both of these exact days. Is there something about the bodies cycle of digestion? I basically get constipated and then about 5 days later have healthy BM's followed by 1 bout of diarrhea. My diet has included the occasional over indulgence of almond butter or fruit. I've been working with a Naturopathic Doctor who has altered the diet a bit to include 1 fruit a day. > > Has anyone else had the same cycle?
