My daughter is allergic to nuts (anaphylactic reaction) so we avoid them. It definitely limits what we eat, but we're making it work. I tried coconut flour (some people who are allergic to nuts are also allergic to coconut though) and she had problems with the flour. But she does okay with shredded coconut and coconut oil. So I use shredded coconut to make the BTVC muffins (with banana included), and I made a coconut macaroon crust for the SCD cheesecake for her birthday that came out really well. I tried the egg-free, nut-free bread, but neither my daughter nor I like it. Maybe it was the vegetables we used. I need to experiment with some other options because the lack of variety is really starting to get to both of us. My daughter rarely feels full and wants more than pureed fruits, pureed vegetables, SCD yogurt

and meat.My daughter has had bad diarrhea for a few weeks now and I'm trying to figure out why, so we haven't introduced any new foods. I've been just trying to eliminate ones she has been eating or reduce the exposure (e.g. not as many eggs). We have kept a food diary, and she was fine until we started her on Sulfasalazine. Her doctor took her off it for a week (but we waited two weeks since she started back to school when the doctor wanted us to re-try the medication), but the diarrhea hasn't gone away. I don't know if it's the food she's eating and she is suddenly having reactions to it, or if it's the medicine messed up her system? I'm wondering if we should re-start the intro diet. We're in the fourth month of the diet and were doing really well until introducing the Sulfasalazine. , I don't have answers but I know others with much more knowledge than I will help. I was reading your post and felt compelled to respond. Just a note to say that you've reached the right people to help you. It must be so hard as a mom to deal with having a young child and then to deal with all the ailments she has. It's enough for me to deal with my ailments but not worry quite as much about my children except I do analyze their poo Which I can say I'm tired of analyzing poo. I got off my initial thought of sending signals to stay strong. You're doing a great thing for you daughter. I would try s.boulardi to see if it helps to stop it. Katy

Diarrhea is a listed side effect of sulfasalazine, so I would blame

that. Is she still on it? I would take her off it and re-do the

intro for a day or two, as you suggested yourself.

As you are finding out, these things can be hard to sort out.

Sulfasalazine, though, does list diarrhea (even bloody D) as a side

effect. ly, I'd be suspecting this one at the top of the

list! I had an awful lot of trouble with Asacol (similar) and was

very glad the doctor only wanted me on it for two weeks.

Thank you for the replies. She's been off the Sulfasalazine for two weeks, but

the diarrhea continued (just not as bad). The doctor wanted her to wait a week

and then re-start it. We have waited two weeks, hoping to get her back to the

way she was before starting the medication. We also didn't introduce any new

foods during this time.

The doctor wanted to start her on either Remicade or Sulfasalazine, and I was

hoping the Sulfasalazine would be the answer as it seems like a safer option

than Remicade. My daughter already takes Methotrexate and Humira and it's been

my goal over the last four years to get her off both injections as soon as I

could find something to keep her chronic inflammation quiet. Her arthritis has

been quiet and she's regained range of motion in her joints, but her eye

inflammation isn't quiet without three eye drops per day and the ulcerative

colitis hasn't been quiet.

I don't know how long she should continue to have the diarrhea after stopping

the Sulfasalazine, which is why maybe restarting the intro diet is the best bet

at this point. I will look into the s boulardii. I have seen posts about it,

but haven't really paid attention to what it is/does or how much you give to a

young child (same as adult dosage?). I will go back through the archives to

learn more.

Thank you!
