Guest guest
My son Liam got his band 2 weeks ago and it's really hot and humid here too. I purchased a battery-operated fan to use in the car when we are running errands and such. Since he has to face backwards he doesn't get the AC as quickly. I lodged it in the headrest and turn it on when we get in the car. It definitely helps and I worry less about him sweating in the car. > > Hi, > My baby is 5 month old and got the band a couple days ago. > I am so worried about the weather. > Nowadays, it is so hot and humid. > My baby is sweating a lot and I can feel his head where the band is put, gets so hot. > I am wondering whether I should continue to put the band on for this hot summer wheather. > Is is OK? Guest guest
We got our DOC Band 2 weeks ago too, and I'll be glad when we are done b/c it is so hot and humid here (Austin). We have had to constantly battle heat stress on his right side forehead, where the band is keeping this head from moving forward. The first week we had it he had no issues during his skin checks, but by the evening of day 3 (Friday night of course) he had bumps and started to peel bad. We thought it was skin breakdown & kept him out of the band that weekend, but when we went in on Monday AM, they said heat rash. He has had another round of mild rash since, and when he gets red we just keep him out of the band till it gets better, which CT said was fine. We keep checking him off and on, wiping his head & band down, airing out for 10 min, and trying to keep him cool. They also suggest that for car trips, especially right after you get into a hot car, to take the band off. Good luck. It's going to be a constant battle for us both, but it will be over soon! Guest guest
My baby girl would get really sweaty in her band as well. I took it off at every diaper change to towel dry her hair and her band and also after being in the car. I also bought a fan from walmart that plugs into the car and (ghetto I know) mounted it so she had air blowing on her in the backseat. Being rear-facing she wasn't getting tons of cool air. I also just had her in a diaper at the house and we went out in onesies (and bows and sandals) and slept only in onesies. It took awhile for her body to get adjusted, but it eventually did. Hope this helps! > Is is OK? Guest guest
Hi, Try to stay someplace cool during the day, such as inside you house if you have air conditioning, a mall, a baby class like Gymboree--they have open play times for people who are signed up for classes. Also, babies do most of their growing while they are asleep so taking the helmet off to wipe it down and give your son a bit of time to air out would probably be ok for short periods. Buy a couple fans to have blowing air around your son. Also, dress him in light clothing. When my son had his band, I spent a lot of time at the malls in my area. There were also days when I would go for a drive with the air conditioner on cold/high. I hope this helps! > Is is OK? Guest guest
The sweaty head thing is pretty common, especially this time of year. I'm sure you know this, but in general, heat escapes out of the head, and obviously, the plastic band does not help it escape!! His body temp will regulate as he gets used to the band, and the sweating will get a little less. Keep him cool and out of the sun (duh, right??)...oh, and remove the band if he is ever sick and runs a fever!! He will be more comfortable when the fever breaks!!! I feel like I am constantly wiping down our daughter's head, but it never seems to bother her!!!!!
