Guest guest
Michele, The amount of protein you should take in to " protein load " prior to surgery is highly variable. It really can depend on your body size and the amount of malabsorption you have with your surgery. I think one of the best " rules " to follow is that anything MORE than what you are currently doing is a GOOD THING. I personally believe that the only way to effectively increase your protein intake is through the use of protein supplements (shakes, not bars, IMHO). Shakes are not " nasty " tasting -- it is a matter of finding the brand/flavor that YOU like. If you are a chocolate lover, I highly recommend Pure Protein Whey Stack (chocolate) manufactured by Champion Nutrition. ProScore 100, also by Champion Nutrition, is also good. When I was " loading " before my plastics, I did approximately 90 grams per day (about three shakes) -- however, keep in mind that I had a purely restrictive surgery -- no malabsorption -- so you may choose to do MORE. I think that if you are not doing ANY protein shakes now, that adding two of them to your day would be an excellent start. If you can work a third one in, great. Guest guest
Wait, You're worried about the taste and love choco? C'mere lil girl, we'll talk. I'm a fan of 8 weeks, either side of surgery. But then, I'm kinda slanted that way, I think I've really gotten away with a LOT of surgeries. My original RNY was my8th or so surgery in life. 4th abdominal. So far, so good. And I wasn't a protein loader then. But I am now. Thanks, Vitalady, Inc.
