I have forgotten what a flare is like

Ok, so I have been doing really well for about 3 years now using SCD and, at

first, Remicade (May 2007-Dec 2009), but then, LDN (since March). Recently,

though I went through a period of a couple of weeks where I was really

hurt/angry/sad and about a week ago, started having pain in my lower belly

(intestinal) and some D. I thought it was just something I ate for a few days

and the pain seemed more like gas, but now I am thinking I might have started to

flare, but I have forgotten what it feels like.

When you guys have a flare, what is happening to you everyday?

Regardless of not remembering, I have been on the intro diet for a couple of

days and I DO feel better, but I have big trip overseas coming up, one I have

dreamed about for 30 years, and I DO NOT want to cancel because of my wretched

intestines!

Hi ,

First up, I do hope you can make your trip that you have been waiting for, for

30 years! I hope you have not been subconciously anxious about it for a while

adding to your current troubles. Do think positively - it does help.

When I flare, I get a lower right abdominal ache, front and back, where I had

the terminal ileum removed with part of the small bowel a couple of years ago.

Also, during a flare, when I visit the toilet, it later feels like my insides

were 'dragged through the bushes', I need to keep the abdomen warm, need to

massage it and sit queitly for about half an hour.In my case I usually have d,

not alternate bouts of d and c. I too get irritable and snappy, for I guess the

system is not as strong to cope and gives in too easily to external factors.

If I drink hot chicken soup during a flare, it actually goes right through me!

So I drink only half a cup at a time and though I love hot drinks, I know I need

to temper it down.

Take legal probiotics with you on your trip, eat simply prepared meats and

veggies, stewed fruits, ripe bananas, etc. depending on the circumstances of

your board and lodging. You may need to sacrifice the foods you were keen to

continue to have on your trip, and focus on the destination.

I have no experience with LDN, so I hope others who have used it will give their

opinion.

It's strange but I have emotional symptoms as part of the picture. I get the

sadness/angry/hurt feelings too. There really seems to be a gut/brain

connection.
