Hi Cherie,

It's more common to hear about screw & hardware removal on these

sites since we are a support site, although it's isn't a large

percentage that have to have it done. It's usually because of

infection. Sometimes screws work themselves lose, and plates can

break. I've heard of people having it done up to 1 or 2 years post-

op (and generally sooner than that), but not much longer than that.

I have my full set of hardware still intact and hope not to have any

problems from it.

Glad you found us anyway. 15 year vet? I'm impressed that your only

problem was hardware removal (and a tough removal at that, but still

less than the original surgery, I'm sure).
