Guest guest
Hi Everyone, Today I had to go to Jordan's school to talk to his guidance counselor - for the second time- because he keeps hitting kids and now the paras/teachers in school. Does anyone have a problem like this with their child? What did you do? The guidance counselor was very helpful in terms of understanding because she's been through similar problem with her own kids. I am at my wits end. He has been hitting, kicking, spitting, pushing, scratching since October and it is happening EVERYDAY. Today when I took him off the bus, the matron told me to try and get a para for him on the bus because he is uncontrollable. Everytime Jordan sees me upset he gets even more upset and starts crying and tantruming. He lies to me when I ask him how his day was because he wants me to be happy. We talk about his behavior every single day and he promises me that he'll behave but he doesn't. The guidance called Dr. H's office while I was there to see if there a connection/side effect with the GH. I spoke to Yadira who put me on hold to ask Dr. H and she said that the GH is not the culprit and that Jordan needs to see a psychiatrist. Anyone in the NY area using a psychiatrist that they can recommend? We are going to the Peds tomorrow to get medical clearance for Jordan's surgery on Monday for tubes in ears and we'll ask him about referrals also. I am sooo STRESSED over this. I have a 5 month old and Dr. H thought his behavior might be related to this but I don't think so because he's been doing this for a long time- not to this extent though. He is getting worse and worse each day. Any ideas? mom to Jordan 5 yrs RSS GH, Periatin, Tums, Vit D, G tube and 5 months
Guest guest
We have similar issues with Colin, though his behavior is always at home and not school. My Dev. Ped today recommended the book " The Explosive Child " by Dr. Greene. Look for it on Amazon as it as excellent reviews. Many of the people who reviewed the book bought copies for their child's teachers to read as well. I haven't read it yet, but it may help you control his outbursts. Good luck and let us know if you find anything that works. Guest guest
, Go to Dr. Turchin. She has been seeing Max for years now. I would not take him to anyone else. She is on 86th St. or somewhere near there. I just love her. Email me privately and I will give you the specifics. She knows about RSS, is extremely knowledgeable about various meds and their effects on kids. And she knows Dr. H. and will work with her. They were at NYH together. Guest guest
Hi You might want to consult with the doctor Jodi Z recommended. But one thing I would highly recommend (if you see this email in time) when you go to the ENT today, ask if his ear problems (I am assuming he has had reoccurring ear infections hence the tube surgery) have affected his hearing. I have a couple of boys at my school who have such a fluid build up in the ears prior to tube surgery that their hearing was affected very much. One boy did start to act out over his frustrations, he can't hear properly and becomes frustrated and the acting out starts, then it becomes a learned behaviour (perhaps the behaviour leads to getting out of class and then the child doesn't have to do the work or follow the directions and thus easies the frustration). It's just a thought, but if you can, I'd ask today while you are there what they think. There definitely could be a connection. Guest guest
Hi Deb, Thanks for your suggestions. Yes, Jordan was diagnosed with mild hearing loss when he saw the Audiologist inOctober. He will have surgery on Monday for tubes. Only time will tell if his behavior problem is related to his hearing loss. Will keep you posted. Guest guest
Hey , How is Jordan doing? I think I found a bag for him for his lunch. Never mind the ones I told you. E-mail me privately your address so that I can send you this. I had to put frozen food in one of the bags and had a 1/2 bag of ice in it on Friday, 12/23 and my boss put it outside and it was about 40-45 degrees out. He forgot about it and went back at like 1:00 a.m. (after it being outside since 1:30 p.m. the day before, so 12 hours later), the food was still frozen. It is supposed to keep foods cold or hot depending on what you put in there, so maybe it will keep Jordan's lunch warm. By the way, had a hearing test done when she was 3 1/2 and she showed slight hearing loss on the right side but she was still on the antibiotic for an ear infection. We never got the tubes because it was right after that we got into her heart condition. B and Kelli lafl109@... wrote: Hi Deb, Thanks for your suggestions.
