Guest guest
I saw Dr. at Vanderbilt who refers everyone to a company in Nashville called Restorative Health Services. Has anyone used this company? I've been doing a little research and found out there is also a Hangar here. I am scheduled for an evaluation with the orthotist at Hangar, BJ Stagner this Friday. Has anyone in Nashville ever gone with Hangar instead of restorative health services? The orthotist over the phone at Hangar said he has been doing helmets for 13 years and seemed knowledgeable. When I asked Dr. about Hangar he said Restorative Health's helmet was cheaper and just as good in his opinion. I called Restorative Health and they said that Dr. actually helped design and develop the helmet. Anyway- I'm just trying to navigate all this and could use some advice! If most of the babies in town are referred to Restorative Health I wonder if I'll be making a mistake if I go somewhere else??
Guest guest
We have been in a Hanger band from BJ Stagner for 2 months now and so far our results have been fantastic. My son has mild-moderate plagio and was 6 months old when we got started. I too was referred to Dr. but after some research I knew I wanted to go with CT, StarBand or Hanger. On another forum I was advised by a few that Restorative Health Services uses and passive band and I wanted to go with an active band. I found BJ Stagner on my own with lots of phone calls and lots of questions. The only reason my ped referred us to Dr. was that he did not know of anyone else who treated plagio. I also found a Hanger office where I live, but I drive an hour and a half to the Nashville Hanger office because of BJ Stagner's experience. So far so good. I am very happy with the decision we made and hope I still feel as positive when this process if all over! Good luck! > > > > > > > I saw Dr. at Vanderbilt who refers everyone to a company in Nashville > > called Restorative Health Services. Has anyone used this company? Guest guest
Hello!! New to the group...referred over from the BBC board. I am in Nashville and just met with at Hanger (State St office of Hanger) and not impressed. We have an appt with BJ on Wednesday! We were also referred to Dr. ..and we have an appt on May 10. Just not sure if we even need to keep it right now. VERY glad I found other Nashville folks! > > > > > > > > > > > I saw Dr. at Vanderbilt who refers everyone to a company in Nashville > > > called Restorative Health Services. Guest guest
Hi! When I called the Hanger office on State Street, I was told that they had just done their first band, so I was a little uneasy about their in-experience. So I kept searching and found the BJ Stagner Hanger office... I also had an appt scheduled with Dr. and kept it just in case, but after meeting with BJ, I cancelled the Dr. appt. For one thing, we decided we didn't think the CT scan was necessary in our case and it takes way too long to get in over there (we were starting this process at 6.5 months). Then on top of all that, it's a passive helmet. That was our thought process on it all anyways, and so far we are very happy that we went with BJ. Good luck with your appointments coming up and I hope you find the right place for you and your little one! > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I saw Dr. at Vanderbilt who refers everyone to a company in Nashville > > > > called Restorative Health Services. Guest guest
- So glad to hear you are having a good experience with BJ at Hanger. We met with him last Friday... We will most likely get the helmet for my son ( 6 mos this Thursday) through him as well although I am so nervous about it!! My son is on the mild/moderate brachy end and my husband and I keep going back and forth as to whether or not we should really do this. BJ recommended it but told us to think about it for a few days so we were really sure. I also met with at State street first and didn't feel confident in his experience. This whole thing is such a process! - how long will your little one wear the helmet for? How was the adjustment process? Great to talk with other local people!! Guest guest
Hi Beth, We are mild to moderate as well and got our son in a band at 7 months. BJ said he should be out of it before his first birthday. So, we'll probably be in it for about 5 months. The adjustments have gone well. We had a pretty rough first week with heat rash and some skin irritation, but BJ shaved out a bit of the helmet and gave us some tips on clearing up his rash. We also visited our ped to make sure there was no infection but he gave us some ointment to help clear everything up. He cleared up really fast after all that and we haven't had any problems since. We've been seeing BJ every 2 weeks (with the exception of the first week) and are now scheduled for a month out, unless we run into a problem and need to see BJ sooner. So far so good though! We were really nervous too! I kept going back and forth on whether he really needed to be banded. But, the day we went up and got it, I had such a feeling of relief on the drive home. I didn't have to worry about that decision anymore and we were so happy we went ahead and did it. I was so nervous that it might not be necessary, he might hate it, what would everyone say... And we seriously have not had one single thought that we made the wrong decision. So, we're very happy with our decision to band with Hanger and with BJ. Let me know if you have any other questions! Good luck! > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I saw Dr. at Vanderbilt who refers everyone to a company in Nashville > > > > > > called Restorative Health Services. Guest guest
& Beth, Thank you again for your information! You have no idea (well, you probably do) how helpful this has been. I have been struggling with all of this and wanting to make the right decision. I had a feeling that meeting with BJ would help us along. I am looking forward to my appointment with him tomorrow. Hopefully we will just re-scan and order immediately (as long as my ped gives a scrip with no problem). thanks again!
