Guest guest
Jeanie, Just yesterday or on Sunday I posted what to expect at the GI appointment. Go back and look at the posts. I did not forget or ignore you! I see that Dayna has replied as well. I'll read her post and add anything if I think I have anything to add. Let us know how the appointment goes, okay? Guest guest
Dayna did a great job of explaining the meanings of the terms and the tests. I previously described what would happen at the GI appointment. Jodi Z

Guest guest
Hi. Good luck friday. With Autumn's first gi appointment they went into a thourough detailed look at everything from weight, length, growth, reflux, bowel movements, pain, caloric intake, nutritional information and advice...etc. Autumn has costipation and was put on miralax althought they never wanted to do a delayed emptying study, I don't know why. She had the barium study for reflux as well as the probe, Summer had a barium study and a different study for reflux...not common but she had some issues when born....not a typical study...a camera went up her nose and down her throat, they foudn reflux and something else. mom to autumn RSS 2 yrs, Summer SGA RSS???, Ocean, Skye > > Okay. I'm gonna try this one last time............LOL > > Can ANYONE tell me what I might expect at Brocktons GI appt. on > Friday? I may have missed a post answering this question. I would > just like a " heads up " on what they will be looking for, exactly. I > know that I should ask them about silent reflux and delayed > emptying. What is delayed emptying? I should probably know before > I ask them about it, huh? LOL If anything, I think Brockton gets > rid of his food TOO FAST. He eats and poops, eats and poops, eats > and poops. He still drinks ALOT of Enfamil with Iron. ( made to 27 > calories per ounce) > > HELP! It's right around the corner and I want to appear like I know > what I'm talking about! > > Thanks! > > Jeanie > > P.S. He was weighed at his peds. office again today. Guest guest
Jeanie, Just keep a log of what Brockton eats every day. Write down the time, the amounts, etc. The GI or the nutritionist in his/her office will calculate the calories. Try not to feel overwhelmed. Nothing invasive will be done at the first visit. Just a lot of questions, probing, and such. You will learn a lot and have more questions. We will help you through it. Jodi Z
Guest guest
Thank you, Jodi. I know you'll all do whatever it takes to make this easier for us. It's just so nerve wracking! Just when you think all the picking and probing and stuff is over for awhile, they throw something else at you. I'm wondering...............can appearance be the only factor leading to an RSS diagnosis? Dont there have to be medical and/or physical attributes as well? Guest guest
Jeanie The way an RSS diagnosis was explained to me was that it was the result of elimination. In other words, he doesn't have this or that or this other thing.....everything else is " normal " so that must be it. Now in Adam's case his appearance is tricky. He has 'the look' but he also looks just like his father---all 4 of us have a head size in the 90th percentile (even me!!); Adam and his father have an underdeveloped chin and a bossed forehead; I have the incredibly small jaw; and Adam does NOT have the 5th finger curve, no cafe au laits spots, no asymmetry (although one doctor thought is one nipple was a hair shorter than the other--but NO body is 100% symmetrical). And yet we still ended up with the RSS diagnosis. Oh and we did the UPD7 test and that came back not showing RSS!! It's a very strange thing and yet it is utterly amazing the 2 times I have been at the conventions and I look at the infants?? I would swear someone stole my baby and had him in their arms! It was that eerie--the " look " our kids had really freaked my mom out when we were in Chicago! Deb Re: Re: GI Appt. Thank you, Jodi. Guest guest
Jeanie! Hey - everything will be just fine! He may push on his belly a bit, talk to you about calories and what types of food Brockton may or may not be eating, ask you questions like whether or not he has reflux and how many bowel movements. If there are any questions you have for him and concerns or thoughts you have gleaned from this site - bring them with you!!! Keep us posted okay? Sorry I missed your first post. Hugs to you. - H > > Jeanie, > > Just keep a log of what Brockton eats every day. Write down the time, the amounts, etc. > The GI or the nutritionist in his/her office will calculate the calories. Guest guest
Hey Deb. I don't really think Brockton has " the look " but I suppose that maybe others think he does.....LOL He doesn't have any of the obvious traits, such as assymetry or curved fingers or webbed toes. He's never had any reflux issues, not even in the NICU. I just dont know. Anyways, it's NOT the end of the world. He is a perfect, sweet, lovable, smart, funny, happy little boy and regardless of this RSS diagnosis.........He's OURS and we couldn't love him more. Things could be SO MUCH WORSE and probably SHOULD be after such a difficult pregnancy and the fact that he was 1 lb. 9 oz. and 12 in. long at birth! I guess my reaction to RSS now that I know what it is, should be..................... " OH! Thank God that's ALL he's got! " LOL Thanks a bunch for your reply. Brockton dad has a big head and prominant forehead. I don't really think that Brocktons is that prominent though......maybe it's just because I'm him mommy. LOL I'll let everyone know tomorrow evening how the appt. went. KEEP YOUR FINGERS CROSSED!!!
