Guest guest
Lindsey - I hope Aidan and you all are doing well. Did Aidan ever have hypospadius surgery? I have been thinking of you all so often. Re the cornstarch, the other posting is correct. You can read a document in the MAGIC library that describes the cornstarch and polycose (for infants) pretty thoroughly and why it works in reducing nighttime hypoglycemia. Just call MAGIC at 1-800-3MAGIC and ask for documents #H-26 and #H-28 and they will mail it to you free since you are a member of MAGIC. That should help you a lot! Guest guest
Lindsey, I am so glad that you ended up going to Poppas. I will NEVER forget the look on your husband's face when Dr. Harbison explained that your son would probably need 2-3 surgeries, and then made some comment about how we should remember that at his age, the penis is quite small and an inexperienced doctor can easily make errors (or some verbage like that). Your husband's face was priceless, and then he said " we'll come to NY. " Never forget that! Re the Pediasure. Many of us use Pediasure. was on it for years. However, we have since learned that for RSS/SGA children who have any kind of stomach emptying delay, Pediasure is actually the worse in terms of digestion time. Peptamen Jr. is better. I have the information that the Easter Seals people wrote, describing which formula is better. We have also just added it to the MAGIC RSS/SGA Library Log, for anyone interested. Can't recall the number, but you can call MAGIC. 1-800-3MAGIC3. Hope that might help. Thank you for writing back! > > > > > > My son, Aidan is 12 months. Guest guest
Lindsey, Dr. Poppas did my son Jonah's hypospadius surgery as well. I loved him! It's funny because a few weeks ago I was sick and Jonah said to me, " mommy, you can't go to Dr. Poppas (I didn't even know he remembered his name). I said why and he said because mommy, he is a penis doctor! I almost fell over laughing. Best of luck. Re: cornstarch - for Lindsey > > > > > > > My son, Aidan is 12 months. Guest guest
: , I really like Dr. Poppas too. I'm glad to hear that you were happy with him. He better be really good since we are coming all the way from Alabama. However, since you were talking about IVs in another message I will tell you that I was very unhappy with the IV team at Cornell. They blew his IV 7 times before they finally got it. That part was worse than the surgery for me. I'm dreading the next two surgeries mainly because of the IV. If you have any tips please share Thanks...Lindsey
Guest guest
Lindsey, I am still in awe of what Dr. Poppas did for Jonah. In terms of the IV, we didn't have a problem, so maybe this time will be better for you guys. They took us into a small room on the floor and two female nurses put in the IV. I am sorry, but I don't know their names. Jonah brought his Elmo into the room and they pretended to give him an IV too, they even put a bandage on Elmo. One thing I would say is that we must always be advocates for our children. When Jonah had his surgery, they put an infant who was sick in his room and the baby's mom was also sick. I had to fight to have the baby or Jonah moved since I did not want Jonah, who probably weighed less than the infant, catching anything. They had an empty room so there was no reason to take chances. All in all, we had a good experience, most of the nurses were good to us, and Dr.Poppas was amazing, but there were a few times that we had to take a stand. Keep me posted. , Jonah' mom Re: cornstarch - for Lindsey > : > , > I really like Dr. Poppas too. I'm glad to hear that you were happy > with him.
