Guest guest
, They are at a craft store or at the local high schools at night. I would love to do both. Unfortunately again, it's the classes at night. That's why I'm thinking I'll have to have my mother teach the knitting to me. In 8th grade I learned how to sew and totally forget some things. Every summer I have my mom make simple jumper dresses for and Kelli and so I get great use (actually my mom gets great use) out of the patterns and really only has to cut one pattern since they are close in size. But she has made beautiful Christmas dresses in the past for my nieces and my girls. I want to be able to make them clothes like that and also make sweaters and blankets. I love making gifts for people. Just don't have enought talent. I remember being in high school and my parents didn't have a lot of money (especially for fashion - they spent it on the house and vacations - for anyone who has met my mom she is not about looks!!!) anyway she made a sweater for me and I remember seeing the same sweater in Macy's (less the strings of yarn on the inside) for $50. I was so excited that I had something that was right up to style. In fact, I think I sent to Leah, Olivia's mom, a sweater that my mom made for my niece who is now 19, a white sweater with stick figure boy and girl on the front. I have a few in the girls closets and they get such compliments. I would feel horrible if I didn't learn this from my mom and have it " handed down " to me so I can do the same for my girls. Thanks H and Dianne, you just made my decision - knitting taught by mom. B and Kelli advocate22003 wrote: - I have that problem too -the bed time routine. My boys are always fighting over who gets mommy to put them to bed. You'd think they haven't seen me all day!! Oh brother. Your plans sound exciting. Have you done either one on your own before? I can sew (have made drapes, and other stuff) but hate to follow patterns. I know how to embroider a bit, crochet, cross- stitch, needlepoint - but I'm not that good at any of it! LOL I think I'd like to make an afghan for the family room. My dh wants me to make a lap quilt for his legs when he reads - and, I've made a quilt before on the machine (without a pattern) but, I would like to learn to do it by hand. What are you interested in making? Wish we were closer so we could do it together! <grin> Are these classes at a community college or a craft store - or somewhere else? Would love to hear more about your thoughts! - H > > > > > > > > I can hear your name being yelled all the way down here in > > NJ!!!!! > > > > Better go fix that name. Crocheting has been my thing for the >last 5 years, I love it, but one smaller crochet project ( baby >sweater or small table runner ) usually takes around 60 hours. I've >only had the patience to make one afghan, taking much longer. Have you tried Tunisian crochet? Wonderful for making afghans. Here's a link to see a baby blanket: http://www.heritageshoppe.com/heritage/designs/classic/blanket.html I have instructions on line to learn to do Tunisian crochet (also known as afghan crochet). If you're interested, I'll steer you there. Whether or not knitting is faster or slower than crochet is debateable and depends upon the methods used as well as the stitches used. I used to think in terms of how long a project takes. Now I'm understanding: What difference does it make? It will be done when it's done. In the meantime, I'm occupied. Which is the reason I'm doing it to begin with. Dianne - Ian's grandmother
Guest guest
- sounds like you've made your decision - and a great one at that. My mom (hi mom) has been trying to get me to do embroidery (she's a master craftswoman - certified and all) and I just don't have the time right now - LOL I use all my patience for my children and dh during the day! I think I'm leaning toward knitting too - it's more probable for me to use those skills with yong ones around, i.e., doctor visits, nap times, waiting in the car at school - LOL - I can find lot's of those kind of times for knitting! Keep me posted okay? I'd love to hear what you decide and end up doing. - H > > > > > > > > > > I can hear your name being yelled all the way down here in > > > NJ!!!!! > > > > > Better go fix that name. Guest guest
- sounds awesome! Yeah - another person to chat with. I love to sew as well. I will take up hand embroidery once the children are a little older (in school - LOL). Thanks for the info about crochet and knitting. Would love to see what you've done! - H > > > > > > > > > > I can hear your name being yelled all the way down here in > > > NJ!!!!! > > > > > Better go fix that name.
