Guest guest
Hi , If Maddison isn't eating much on her own as it is and needs help from you then I think she should have a para at school to assist her. Jordan has a para with him at lunch time. He can eat on his own but he does need prompting. Even at home if you leave him alone to eat it will take hours because he gets too distracted. And in school there are alot of kids in the cafeteria and Jordan definitely gets distracted so the para just encourages him to eat and tries to get him to finish his food. I always have them send back the remaining food so I can see for myself how much he ate. I will have you and Maddison in my thoughts and prayers on Nov 22. She'll be fine. I know it's nerve wracking to have surgery - but the outcome is well worth it. You'll see.
Guest guest
, I think everyone will vote different ways. I think that you should try the least restrictive way first, since she will not be receiving any bolus or tube feeds during the day. Our experience with is that we have tried to let her " own " her life first. There have been times in the last 5 years where she hasn't wanted to eat as much, and then she knows that someone will monitor her at lunchtime, etc. But that also makes her eat more so that she doesnt' have anyone around. She doesn't want to feel different. Clearly, you still have to have a 504 or IEP, in that she will need access to frequent snacks, etc. throughout the day -- she may not want to eat much at lunch but may make up the calories with other snacks during the day. That is what happens with . As long as 's weight continues to grow, we don't care what she eats at lunch -- that is her " freedom " time.... no adult hovering asking her to take one more bite. HA!!! You obviously still need a meeting with the school so that they know what to do in emergencies with the tube, etc. But could you start out with just accomodation changes? See how she does?
