Transition from Intro to next step???

I'm at bit confused on the transition outlined in book of going from the Intro

diet into the next step? It seems clear that the max time on intro is 5 days.

The next step she says is...

" ONCE CRAMPING AND DIARRHEA SUBSIDE, cooked fruit, banana, and cooked vegetables

may be tried. If they seem to cause additional gas or diarrhea when they are

added to the diet, delay their use until later. "

So what if you finish day 5 of the intro diet and your CRAMPING AND DIARRHEA

have NOT subsided?? Your not supposed to do intro any longer but you don't meet

the criteria to advance either? And if you went ahead and tried to advance how

would you know if you are reacting to what you are trying because you hadn't had

relief from cramping or diarrhea yet anyhow?

What am I missing here?
