Guest guest
Hi Bob! I myself haven't posted here in ages.... I was just thinking about you the other day wondering how you've been doing and how everything has progressed since your second surgery- so I was glad to see your name pop up in the messages, BUT I am so sorry about the ongoing problems with your mouth!!!! I don't think I'd know how to feel either.... My blood pressure was so elevated that my primary doctor was monitoring it after I learned I might need a second surgery for a bone graft! Fortunately, my jaw healed on its own every so slowly but surely, but my teeth are a tad screwy now due to starting elastics prematurely. My bite is a little canted now, but I am hoping that ortho can fix it. Anyway, I can't imagine what you must be feeling. I wish your post was written under better circumstances. Is there no way that your ortho can move your teeth??? I can't imagine how your jaw must have relapsed a second time. I know personally, my teeth certainly weren't anywhere near where they needed to be once I was on the other side of the surgery- mostly I think because there was so much assymetry all around. On one side the bite was decent, but on the other side, my teeth were meeting end to end. Slowly through the work of rubber bands we've been shifting the teeth into position. The surgeon assured that the bones were in the right position, but that I just had a lot of ortho left ahead of me. I am jealous of those who emerge with perfect bites after their surgery, but I can't imagine your nightmare..... There isn't anything your ortho can do orthodontically i.e. NON-surgically? It is the bone that is mal- positioned? I will hope for the very best news from your surgeon- that your bones are perfect and that your teeth just need some alignment work. When will you hear from your surgeon? You and my family are in my prayers! Keep in touch and let me know how you are doing! I am still around lately, just not posting as much (I was overseas for a month and am completely out of touch with this group now!) Please take good care and hang in there, numb and all..... Guest guest
Bob, I'm so sorry. I remember when you were having your second surgery. It was around the time I was originally supposed to be scheduled to have my surgery (I didn't have it until July 22nd). I had a class 3 mallclusion also, and pray I don't have a relapse. After your surgeries did they wire you, band you, or neither? How long did you have a splint in? We will be all thinking about you and sending out good thoughts to you. Focus on your upcoming vacation, hopefully that will help to pass the time. Curious, but now how often is your OS seeing you? Also, you are still planning on taking your trip, right? PS to Katja- Glad to hear you're still out there. I've missed seeing your's and Jane P.'s posts on the board. I hope all goes well with you. Guest guest
Sorry to hear of your ongoing problem. Since you hadn't posted for a while, we all assume that you were doing well. It is amazing had strong those jaw muscles can be. Please keep us posted on your progress. BTW-hope you still take your trip to Vegas, it might lift your spirits. I live in Vegas, the end of Sept. should be a good (meaning not tooooo hot) time to be here. a > I've been reading and cheering you all on in silence for the past > couple months since I last posted....I had my 2nd surgery may 23 /05 a > result of a total relapse of my 1st surgery march 8/05....mandibular > osteotomy setback 5mm and geino forward 5 to balance...this all a > result of a dental disaster (long story /short) I have a class 3 > malloclusion I did not even know what that meant,(I dont even know how > to spell it) I was 45 at the time....My teeth caused me No problems at > all , they were shifting around a bit.....did'nt look that great but > did'nt look that bad either......He said instead of me having my face > rearranged (Surgery) he would create an " end to end " bite , by > crowning all my teeth and having them meet " head on " to compensate for > the class 3 malloclusion.....I did'nt know that that would bring my > good life, to a grinding halt!...and obvious he was'nt aware > either...... > Feb 7 , when they booked my surgery for March, My wife and I and > freinds of ours booked a 10 dayer for vegas sept25/05 to celebrate the > end of a nightmare,...I KNEW Already before I saw the ortho yesterday, > my teeth had returned to colliding head on....and I am know wearing an > acrylic splint 24/7 till I hear from the surgeon again.......... > Has any one out there had 3 surgerys on the lower, and is that even > possible...Why would it relapse twice???/ I'm full of plates wires and > screws, 2times.. Guest guest
First, Bob, I am so sorry. That must be awful to even have to contemplate doing this thing three times. I wasn't crazy about doing it once, and wouldn't have been happy with twice, even once I realized that mine was a pretty easy procedure. It's not unheard of for one to have the surgery three times. I can think of fewer than 10 people who have had to do so -- and my own surgeon was appalled when I told him that I knew of some. It seemed unheard of to him. (For the record, he did a quick, easy, simple, fine piece of work for me, and I had little swelling and no numbness. He fixed what ailed me, and I'd go back to him in a flash.) For one, her doc admitted that he placed her jaw in the wrong place the first time. I don't know what he told her about the second. Another had long-standing, in fact congenital, problems with her joints, which apparently predisposed her to relapse.. And of course (minirascal) who's still posting, is just about out of the woods, but she's had a pretty bumpy road, thanks to arthritis and other joint and jaw problems. If I may be so bold as to make suggestions: Has anyone specifically addressed undoing the damage that first crackpot dentist did with the crowns? I'd be asking about that, for sure. Have you had consults with other surgeons, and with the one(s) whose work has relapsed, about why this has happened to you? I'll bet the answer to that one is yes. But I certainly wouldn't be shy, after going through this twice, about asking whatever surgeon I planned to use on round three to have extensive consults with my ortho and with the other surgeons, or any other surgeons he or she might find helpful. Best to you. Cammie
