Guest guest
Thanks for the insight. I'm just so nervous about everything I start to second guess myself. i might not even tell most people i got them in (if i do), if they look that natural then why tell? thanks again! > > My sister had cheek implants many years ago along wiht rhinoplasty. All I have to say, is that the results are fantastic!! and completely natural looking. You would never guess in a million years that she has them. Guest guest
I have heard of one person who received cheek implants without forewarning, and was very upset about it. She's not happy with them. I do disagree with your comment that " if we all looked fine, we wouldn't need this surgery " . In many cases, the functional changes result in a cosmetic change as well. But there are many, many people who need this surgery, but do not experience a cosmetic impact. I'm decidedly on the side of functional need for this surgery. It's a lot to go through just for cosmetic change, with no guarantee of the outcome. It's just easier to take the risks if there is a functional outcome that would be an improvement. I did experience significant physical change as a result of the surgery, but I would have been quite happy living with my appearance as it was before surgery. To paraphrase an author whose works I'm reading now: it's the heart and intelligence of a person that's important, not their physical appearance. Physical sight only blinds our perceptions, it's very superficial. > > I just wanted to get some feedback from anyone that had (or will be) cheekbone implants > along with their orthognathic surgery. Guest guest
make sure you know all the risk associated with them & how often your Dr. does this procedure. some risk: - infection = low risk forever - bone erosion - implant shifting (if it shift's you will need another procedure to correct) - " show-thru " as you age (as would your own bone structure) , the outline of the implant may become more apparent, this depends on many factors (implant size, tissue coverage) you should also know: - what material he's going to use (silicone, porex or gortex) - what size, he's going to put in - are they going to be screwed in just some considerations > > > > My sister had cheek implants many years ago along wiht rhinoplasty. Guest guest
hi there, I had jaw surgery with cheek implants amost 5 weeks ago and haven't as yet had any difficulties. The surgeon used hydroxyapatite implants which is a substance from coral similar to bone and which sits on the bone. It takes about 6 weeks for them to set, so in the meantime, they can be shaped or flattened if they are too big. I don't think i would have been that keen on silicone etc.. Anyway, so far, I'm pleased with the result at the moment, although it's still too early to say for sure, as i have a fair amount of swelling left to go down! I had my upper jaw advanced so without the implants, my cheeks would have look even flatter than they did before. If you would love to have fuller cheeks, then go for it, but make sure the surgeon understands the look you are after...and you understand any addtional risks etc... Good luck Suzy x > > I just wanted to get some feedback from anyone that had (or will be) cheekbone implants > along with their orthognathic surgery. Guest guest
My first surgeon suggested cheek implants and I went RUNNING to another surgeon. Surgeon #2 said not to have them done at the same time as the ortho surgery because you really don't know what you'll look like after the surgery - so how can you judge if you'll need cheek implants. He said to wait a year or so and then decide. > > I just wanted to get some feedback from anyone that had (or will be) cheekbone implants > along with their orthognathic surgery.
