Guest guest
I had upper[moved up]/lower[foward]/genio [8hr surgery] on july 30 and i still look swollen & awful especially my nose?,is this normal or is this just the end result? I have been crying all day because i just dont recognise myself anymore,my nose is twice the size it was,you can see here http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/groups/orthognathicsurgerysupport/before% 26badafter.jpg?bch6jSDBNK10Byt_ Everything just looks bad,is it just swelling or am i stuck like this?? some days my swelling goes down and my nose looks a bit more normal but mostly it looks awful,it also swells alot around the sides of my lower jaw which it didnt do the first two weeks post op surgery. I dont have an infection,I had a minor infection over 3 weeks ago and swelled up then but took anti -biotics and the infection passed ct/scan found nothing and i have no symptoms now,v.depressed at the moment. http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/groups/orthognathicsurgerysupport/before% 26badafter.jpg?bch6jSDBNK10Byt_
Guest guest
Hi Artisticedie, I couldn't get to your picture link even when I manually put it in. It said that file didn't exist. Could you try posting it again for us? You are still fairly early post op for all the swelling to be gone. I was told initially taht I am going to be scheduled for an upper rhinoplasty after my jaw surgery and lower septal repair surgery, and while I am not looking forward to it, just knowing that ahead of time is somewhat of a relief. Have you discussed your concerns with your OMS? Perhaps the particulars of your surgery caused more trauma to the lower nasal septum, and that is taking longer to subside now. Or maybe, like me, you might have another procedure necessary to get to the conclusion of your journey. But the best person to ask about it is your surgeon. Knowing what is going on can be a huge relief. And perhaps the swelling around your lower jaw is from being more active with it. I mean, using muscles and tissues more for speech and eating post op can cause extra swelling, just like you swell post op from a knee surgery when you are re-training the muscles. I had that for quite a while with my knee, but then it finally subsided. Hang in there. But definately quiz your OMS about both of your issues. And let us know what you find out. Many of us are in similar situations, or can completely empathize with what you are feeling. I hope your day is going better. You have support here!! Guest guest
Thanks so much for the kind words, what is lower septal repair surgery? perhaps i was suppose to also have that,I was never told about it.I am seriously considering rhinoplasty if my nose does'nt regain some it its shape,as it is bothering me the most, but I do feel like ive really swollen up the past few days. http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/groups/orthognathicsurgerysupport/__hr_befor e%26badafter.jpg?bcAwtSDBfKu3JSQv the whole url has to be pasted in,its also the last image under " show all " in the photo album. I did speak to my OS yesterday and she was'nt concerned, she did tell me in the beginning that it would take 3mths for me too see what I really looked like but at 2.5 mths I expected to look a little more normal and for swelling to stabilise not go up and down as it had .:- [ what > > > > I had upper[moved up]/lower[foward]/genio [8hr surgery] on july 30 > > and i still look swollen & awful especially my nose?,is this > normal > > or is this just the end result? > > I have been crying all day because i just dont recognise myself > > anymore,my nose is twice the size it was,you can see here > > > > http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/groups/orthognathicsurgerysupport/before% > > 26badafter.jpg?bch6jSDBNK10Byt_ > > > > Everything just looks bad,is it just swelling or am i stuck like > > this?? some days my swelling goes down and my nose looks a bit > more > > normal but mostly it looks awful,it also swells alot around the > > sides of my lower jaw which it didnt do the first two weeks post > op > > surgery. > > > > I dont have an infection,I had a minor infection over 3 weeks ago > > and swelled up then but took anti -biotics and the infection > passed > > ct/scan found nothing and i have no symptoms now,v.depressed at > the > > moment. > > > > > > http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/groups/orthognathicsurgerysupport/before% > > 26badafter.jpg?bch6jSDBNK10Byt_ > > >
Guest guest
Hi Artisticedie, Basically a lower septal repair is the lower septal half of a rhinoplasty. My septum is nearly closed on the lower left side because it is so off midline. They will repair that, but then the upper part of my right nose will be blocked off from the move. So they will then repair that in a second surgery. Since it is a necessary surgery, it will be covered by insurance, but because it is medically necessary, I am allowed to also have a cosmetic repair. I am going to take advantage of that fact!! Yeah!! I mean, I don't HATE my nose, and wouldn't do anything about it otherwise, but since I will have to have the jaw surgery which may alter the appearance of my nose in its own right, I am glad I can do the second nose surgery to look more balanced if you know what I mean. I would check with your OMS. It may be swelling from the surgical trauma to the area. But in todays age, if it really really bothers you, there are options for us. But being a little surgery cautious, I am still hoping your OMS can give you some insight into the change for you. And I am hoping it is swelling that will diminish soon. Let us know what you find out. Crossing my fingers for you!
