The second week, she wore it for 23 hours. Last couple of days, we noticed that there is raw red bruising on her right side (the holding point of the helmet) and it did not go away even after a 12 hours of rest from helmet wearing. The scalp tissue looks raw and red even after one entire day of not wearing the helmet. We have applied vaseline to the spot to help heal the damaged tissue. Does anyone have this problem with the helmet? Is bruising of the scalp common with wearing the helmet? We have a Hanger's helmet. For the time being, I have stopped putting the helmet on baby girl until her spot heals. Any advice and comments would be appreciated. Thank you everyone. Love this support group! Guest guest
It could be a couple of things. If she has had the helmet for two weeks, red spots can be a sign that it is time to get the band adjusted. I would suggest making an appointment with your ortho for an adjustment. It could also be heat rash which is common with the band. My son developed it within days of getting his band. We treated it with hydrocortisone cream and that took care of it. Once it was healed and he was use to the band it didn't happen again. Guest guest
Hello,See your ortho for an adjustment pronto. Call them right away for directions on how to proceed. Yes, my daughter had the exact same thing the first week that she was in her helmet(happened when we went to 23 hour schedule.) She had a red abrasion on the back side of her head. I phoned the ortho right away. The ortho on call phoned me on a weekend and gave me a new wearing schedule until Monday when I could go in for an adjustment. I was told not to put anything on her head(I thought an antibiotic ointment would help, but was told not to use it--keeps the spot from drying out and doesn't heal as fast.) You want this tissue to heal fast so that she can get back in her helmet. Ask your ortho for advice on what to put on her head to help it heal. Good luck!-AmyFrom: <abc123_95814@...>"Plagiocephaly " <Plagiocephaly >Cc: "Plagiocephaly " <Plagiocephaly >Sent: Tue, March 22, 2011 1:24:43 PMSubject: Raw Red Bruising on scalp Hi everyone,My little 8 month old baby girl just started wearing her helmet 2 weeks ago.
