Guest guest
Regina, I think that is my SIL's situation too. I have not seen such a fast food culture in a household before. It was a once in a while thing in our home and in my parents' home. Kim O ================================================== Kim: My father was a NYC Fireman and very rarely home. He also had his own business on the side and some other interests other than the ones at home. After awhile, my mother just got disgusted and depressed and stopped cooking. She used to say she only cooked twice a year, for Easter and Thanksgiving. She wasn't joking. Shame of it was, she was a very good cook. We would have Mc's at least twice a week. By the time I was 12 or 13 I remember getting a Big Mac, and a cheeseburger with large fries and a chocolate shake. Let us not forget the apple pie either. Pizza was at least three times a week and the rest was pure crap also. The first time I went food shopping after we got married, Tim was appalled at what I bought. French bread pizzas, tv dinners, etc. He helped me with learning how to buy the right stuff. I could always cook, just had to learn to use real food. Problem was, Tim not only likes to cook, he likes to eat. So we always made lots of food and ate it. A pound of spaghetti for the two of us with no leftovers was normal. Tim has about 20 lbs he should lose. Just blessed with a good metabolism. Now when I make spaghetti, I make half a box, feed the two kids and Tim and usually have leftovers, unless Tim is really hungry that day. I never realized how much food I actually consumed until after I had the surgery. In the beginning I was still cooking for two adults with huge appetites and two small children. The amount of leftovers was incredible and the first six months post op, I can't tell you how much food just got thrown away from going bad in the fridge. It was humbling to see how much I actually contributed to the food bills in the house. : ) Regina
