Guest guest
Hi , I am so sorry to hear about Autumn and her infection. Did they say anything about it being granulation tissue? doesn't get it, but I know there are some kids on here that tend to get granulation tissue around the G tube site. I hear it is pretty painful and they use some kind of stuff to " burn " it off. But, I don't know, Autumn may really have an infection under the skin of the stoma. How are you cleaning her site? I hope she starts eating better for you. Take care, Jodi R. > > Hi all. I havn't been able to get on the computer in a few days, I > need to catch up on e-mails! Guest guest
They said in the ER they thought it was granulation tissue and burning of the skin from stomach acid creating a rash and I was given some nyastatin cream. It only got worse and the nurse and doc took one look at it today and said, nope, it was an infection adn felt around, lifed up the button..etc, it looks bad. As for cleaing it, I was instructed to stay away from teh button until her 2 week visit then they will show me how to clean, he didn't want it being moved around, It was stitched and the tube for feeds was attatched and taped to her skin.. Everything was fine until thursday when it began to ooze some. I just cleaned it gently with water and gauze, but it oozed so much it couldn't seem to be cleaned enough. Then it just looked worse by saturday night, and now even worse. I would ge most of the yellow goop/crust off then it would come right back and just build up. They told me today that is normal and not the infection and it will get better as it heals, but the redness and red streaks are the infection. They said to clean with a mix of hydrogen peroxide and water or soap and water. Any hints? > > > > Hi all. I havn't been able to get on the computer in a few days, I > > need to catch up on e-mails! Guest guest
What a bummer about the infection...how can they diagnose that as a rash! I don't like that hospital after everything you have gone through. Hang in there, you are doing SUCH a GREAT job... > > Hi all.
