Guest guest
Hi all! I was just rereading the H message about Periactin and the Jodi Z response ... so here it is ... Our doctor prescribed 1/4 tsp (1.25Mls /.5 mg) twice a day and I told him that we were going to start off only at night for a week or so. Noah is 19 lbs, 8.7 ounces ... should we start off at the 1/4 tsp cause that is already half of what H was going to be giving Ian, who is maybe a pound more in weight. Is this dose high enough for later ... I mean after he is used to it? We'll only be giving Noah 1/2 tsp a day at full dose ... 1/4 twice a day. H's was 1/2 tsp 3X / day ... maybe we'll do what our doc ordered, see how it goes and when he goes to get weighed in a month see about increasing. Guest guest
Dawna, Why don't you try working up to the 1/4 tsp. twice a day, stick with it for a month and then, when you take Noah to get weighed, see what happens? It's better to start out small so his body can get used to the med. Most of us have taken at least a month to get our kids up to the full dose anyway. If, after a month, you do not see a significant change, then you can always increase the nighttime dose for a bit, then the daytime if necessary. Just be aware that you may not SEE a big change in his appetite at first, but even eating just one extra 50 calorie cookie a day for a month totals 1500 calories in that month and that is almost half a pound. Unfortunately, for most of us, we don't want that extra half a pound, but for our kids, it's great! Jodi Z
Guest guest
Thanks Jodi, After getting the prescription yesterday (I can't remember what exactly I wrote in the last post so I apologize if I'm repeating), and when I noticed that H's dose was double, my hubby and I checked on the internet and then called the pharmacy and confirmed that the doctor did prescribe about 1/2 of what the recommendation for NOah's weight is. The doctor did tell me to call after a week to see if I noticed any change at all in his eating habits, so maybe he was going to suggest some change then. BUT I will take it easy and just do the 1/4 at supper for at least a week and then add the 1/4 in the morning and go from there. So far so good (well it's only been one dose). He didn't particularly care for the taste but it's so little that we can shoot it into his mouth and give him a drink and I think he'll be okay ... keep your fingers crossed. Probably a coincidence but we do think that he ate a little better last night and this morning ... probably hopeful thinking on our part. BUT it feels good to even think he's eating more!!!!! Guest guest
Dawna - HI! How's the Periactin going? Ian hates it! LOL I don't even think we've gotten much of it in him over the last week. We forgot on Thanksgiving to bring it with us on our trip and then my husband forgot on Friday, and I know he spit most of it out last night. He is so good about keeping it in his mouth. I even tried mixing it with foods, and even holding his nose!! Poor thing. He somehow knows I wouldn't hold his nose too long and he waits until I let go and let's it drool out of his mouth! He's a stinker. I love him for it - I think it shows great will power! LOL Anyway, I too have noticed a tiny bit of change with eating - but, only time will tell. Let me know how it is going for you. Have been thinking of you lot's! - H > > > > Dawna, > > > > Why don't you try working up to the 1/4 tsp. twice a day, stick > with > > it for a month and then, when you take Noah to get weighed, see > what > > happens?
