Guest guest
So how do you feel now Jeanie? Do you feel that you were well prepared for the visit and were the doctors able to answer all your questions? I'm so glad Brockton likes his new formula and that you have a health care professional willing to " fight the system " for you!!! Those people are definitely keepers! Sounds like it went well for you and I'm so glad. Unfortunately I don't know the difference between a diagnosis and a clinical diagnosis. It will be interesting to find out! Debby Brocktons GI appt. Hi all. Brocktons GI appt. went pretty well. They don't see any issues with him. They are taking him off the Enfamil with Iron and putting him on Pediasure with Iron. I gave him his first bottle of it tonight and he drank 7 oz.!!!! That's the most he's EVER drank in one sitting! I added some Gerber Oatmeal with banana to it. I think we've got a winner! LOL I am a little concerned about his Blue Cross/Blue Shield accepting it. We tried to get the Pediasure before and they denied it. The dietician at Strong said that she will fight them until the okay it. I think I like her! She said she knows ways to bring them around to her way of thinking. I also found another food that he seems to like. Harvard Beets! Weird, huh? LOL This might be a stupid question but I feel like I have to ask it anyways..........lol............What is the difference between a clinical diagnosis and a diagnosis? I'm a little confused. Thanks Jeanie
Guest guest
Hi. I am glad everything went well with the visit. Also, when Autumn was diagnosed RSS I wondered the same thing about the 'clinical diagnosis' verses the just plain 'diagnosis'. I was told that because there isn't a specific yes or no test to confirm RSS (which would allow a 'diagnosis') then the diagnosis is based upon a grouping of clinical findings such as IUGR, low weight, smaller length etc...all the RSS qualities...therefore being a clinical diagnosis. mom to Autumn 2 RSS, Summer 6.5 mos SGA poss RSS, Ocean 3.5 yrs, SKye 7.5 yrs > > Hi all. > > Brocktons GI appt. went pretty well. Guest guest
Thanks Deb. It does still seem like they try to dismiss everything I say about RSS. They don't understand it and HATE to admit it. As long as Brockton is gaining and not having any issues, I won't stir the pot. Believe me though............they don't want to mess with me if things start changing. I've got a lethel weapon right here in this group!!! LOL I wish we lived closer to Strong and could see this dietician regularly. She really did seem sincere................hard to find around here! Thanks again. I do feel MUCH better now that it's over. jeanie " debby.b " wrote: So how do you feel now Jeanie? Guest guest
Jeanie, FYI: Dr. Harbison does not like our kids to drink Pediasure. She says it has too much sugar. She believes that our kids fill up on those empty calories. Also, they are at risk for blood sugar issues, insulin resistance and, as a result, early adrenarche, and Pediasure just has too much sugar for those risks. Okay, okay. You are probably panicking now because I have written this. Don't. There are a number of kids who drink this formula and do well. I just felt that I would be remiss if I did not share this info with you. And if you ever get to Dr. H., you will be prepared for her lecture. LOL Trust me - we've ALL been lectured or reprimanded at one point or another.... Remember, however, that our kids need complex carbs and protein when they are eating. Sugary things can raise their blood sugars quickly and then they crash. (Like eating a chocolate bar and then feeling tired a little afterwards, after the initial burst of energy.) Sugary things, even fruit, should only be given after the complex carbs and protein, and then in small amounts at a time. Jodi Z
Guest guest
Hi Jeanie, I just wanted to let you know that our son was using pediasure for quite some time and it was the one 'formula' that worked for us; at the time the gastroenterologist (is there a short form for this?) told us not to worry too much about the sugars as it was his 'short term solution to a long term problem'. Will is not on pediasure any more but it certainly was the boost he needed because nothing else worked. He has even had it in his NG tube for feedings in the past because he tolerated it so well. I'm not sure what the blood sugars connection is, but our son seems to crave sugars and we don't worry about too much in his system but maybe not enough? Is that anyone else's experience? I'm glad that Brockton has found a 'short term solution' that he tolerates and likes. Just clean the little teeth really well after a bottle. Good luck! Guest guest
Jeanie, I'm not up to date on the formulas that are out there. Maybe someone else can suggest something? Jodi Z
