Guest guest
I've been on and off entocort for the past 2 years. In my opinion, all steroids, including entocort, are pretty awful. On the other hand, if you have to go on a steroid, and I, like so many other crohn's people, do many times, then entocort is the best steroid out there. My doctor has said that compared to prednisone entocort's effects are not nearly systemtic or as bad since most of the steroid is actually absorbed by the intestine. As for side-effects, I did gain some weight and got aphasia (my face looked moon shaped) but aside from that nothing much happened. This is what the CCFA says about entocort: " Representing a new class of corticosteroids called nonsystemic steroids, it targets the intestine rather than the whole body. Because 90% of the drug is inactivated before it reaches the rest of the body, it causes fewer side effects than traditional corticosteroids such as prednisone. Side effects include headache, respiratory infection, and nausea, among other corticosteroid-associated side effects. " On the other hand, its a whole other ball of wax with a young child. I was diagnosed with Crohns when I was 16 and put 40mgs of pred for many, many months. The steroids really messes up a growing body. That all being said and done, I suspect the steroids are good short term solution to make your child feel better and give him a chance to heal. > > Hi, > > Has anyone taken Entocort? If so, for how long? And did you have any side? Did you need to taper off? I'd love to hear about your experience. Guest guest
Thanks for the reply. I've been reading what I can about Entocort online but its very reassuring to hear your personal story. Its difficult to trust only one source of information, i.e websites describing Entocort. My little guy seems to be doing so much better with this than Prednisone. We're just getting started with SCD and I have high hopes for the results, once we're fully on board, but I don't expect to be able to stop all meds anytime soon. For now I can only make the best choices possible after gathering as much info as I can. So, thanks again for sharing your experience and knowledge. > > > > Hi, > > > > Has anyone taken Entocort? Guest guest
I appreciate this reply, even though it was not my question...my 5 yr old was recently RXed this drug, along with pred., and I'm working on figuring out another solution for him. We have been SCD for 20 months...thinking of beginning intro again with him. Thanks for the side effect warnings on it. Kim in NJ > > > > Hi, > > > > Has anyone taken Entocort? If so, for how long? Guest guest
How is your son? I have taken entocort and pred. I prefer entocort but (thanks to SCD) I am able to be off of both. Anyway, I would love to have an update on how your 11 year old is doing. I hope you are all doing well > > Hi, > > Has anyone taken Entocort? If so, for how long? And did you have any side?
