Guest guest
Thanks for your reply Sara. You seem to know a lot so I hope you don't mind if I ask you another question I guess what I am trying to say is that I don't understand how the mechanics of the braces I have on now are any different than the braces that I had on in my teens. Everything is on my teeth the same way they were when I was a teenager. So what exactly does the ortho have to do to make my teeth basically move in the opposite direction so that they are going to be in their new position for my my new jaw position. Does that make any sense? It seems like the ortho would have to do something a completely different, but so far everything seems the same. Thanks, Samara sazymania <no_reply > wrote: Samara, ys the braces process is different pre-surgery than post-op. It's because the ortho has to realign your teeth so that they are in the right position for when they shift your jaw. In other words, although your teeth may look out of wack pre-surgery they will fall into the exact proper position they need to be in after. The better aligned they are pre-surgery then the less work they have to do post-op. In terms of not looking at your molds or xrays very much....are you sure? That has me a little concerned. Can you discuss this with your oral surgeon? In terms of measurements etc. the ortho doesn't actually go through these calculations until some months after you've had the braces on. My ortho knew roughly what he wanted to do but it all started to become crystal clear after about 3 months with the braces. Hope this helps and don't be afraid to ask your doctors what is going on. Guest guest
See, that's the problem I am having. Everything is exactly the same as when I had them on when I was a teenager. The bands and wires are exactly the same, and I don't have power chains on. Maybe my Harvard educated ortho. had no clue what he is doing?? JB wrote:Hi Samara. Your teeth will move in ways you never thought they could! I have had my braces on for almost 1.5 years and my teeth have moved so much. The process does seem the same as when I was younger. The difference is where they hook bands and wires and all kinds of other wonderful things (power chains, etc. etc.) to the brackets. If you have a good orthodontist everything will be just fine > Thanks for your reply Sara. Guest guest
I think the principles of moving the teeth are about the same. But it's WHERE they move them that makes the difference. My ortho spent about a year leveling and aligning my teeth, I think. (It had been 50 years since my previous orthodontic work). But then once he had that accomplished he did do some things differently. For instance, although I had an overbite, I wore Class III elastics for a while. Best way to find out what he's doing is to ask him. Tell him what you're worried/wondering about, and I'll bet he'll explain. Cammie Hi Samara.
