Guest guest
My surgery is scheduled for Sept. 20. I'm really nervous about recovery and the pain. How painful will the first few days be? Will I need a family member with me in the hospital or will I be alert enough to manage by myself? I really don't know what to expect. Thanks!! Guest guest
It's amazing, but there really isn't usuall a lot of pain. There are exceptions, and a few people have been miserable, but more usual complaints are swelling, congestion (if you have upper) and numbness. What pain there is, is generally well controlled by pain meds, and sometimes things like Tylenol or Advil are better than the more potent ones. I think it's always a good idea to have someone with you when you're at the mercy of a hospital. Mine was fine, and I was alone. But others have been very grateful to have a parent or spouse or friend who could communicate on their behalf with the nurses/doctors/other hospital staff and run the errands the busy nurses and aides may not have time to do immediately. Guest guest
Hi , I was very nervous and also exited about my surgery but dreaded the recovery! I was in hospital for 9 days and had my mum by my side the whole time I was in hospital and when I got home. I wasn't very alert for the first few days as I was on a lot of medications including pain meds. The Dr's were able to keep on top of my pain, with pain meds. I found it very helpfull to have my mum there with me as she could get me drink, pass me things, wipe my face, help me out of bed ( I also had a bone graft from my hip), --------------------------------- Click here to donate to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort.
