Guest guest
hi emily!! christopher is also ADHD. there are a great group of books by Dr. W. Phelan (he spoke at the 2004 MAGIC convention and was great) one book is All About ADD and the other is 1-2-3 Magic, they are a must read. we have so far made out really well with christopher with just using sturucture and routine. when he first went to preschool in the preschool disabled class he had to be strapped in a specail chair otherwise he was off the wall and all over the place. now after 2 years in the special ed. class, he is now in the general ed. preschool and is doing great!! good luck!! jodie c
Guest guest
, I'm sorry about the ADHD diagnosis. Max was the same age when he was diagnosed. The only " good " thing about being diagnosed today vs. when Max was is that there are more meds to help with it and not all supress appetite. And other meds are used besides stimulants now. It's a lot of trial and error. If I can help you at all, please let me know. I deal with it every single day at school. Plus my husband, son and daughter have some form of it. I wonder how I manage to stay sane! Jodi Z
Guest guest
Hi , I have read this book upon another RSS mom's advice. It is a wonderful book, but I don't think it applies to ADHD kids as much as it does to kids who have anger management problems (verbal & /or physical aggression), difficulty complying with rules, and just generally inflexible children (hence the title " The Explosive Child " ). While ADHD kids may display some of these characteristics, these are not characteristics of ADHD alone. This book could be helpful to you if Colin was displaying any of these problems. However, at age 5, it might be harder to get him to voice his concerns (a step that the program in the book includes). The other thing I wanted to point out to you is that it may be too early at age 5 to formally diagnose Colin with ADHD. I also agree that waiting to see how he does in school will be a big factor in his diagnosis. Kim C.
