Hi all,

Originally I was going to have braces in early January; my surgeon

said that would be the earliest. I just went to the orthodontist and

my surgeon yesterday and both said my palate is wide enough and all is

good for braces. So in about 2 weeks, I'll start having braces. I'm

excited because I'm one step closer to being done with all of this but

not excited because I've heard a lot of painful braces stories. Don't

know when I'll be having my jaw surgery (I won't be seeing my surgeon

for another 2 months). Hopefully sometime this summer, if not sooner.

- Congratulations on your good news! Braces really aren't bad,

but the first week will be the worst of it. Everything that Jen told

you is true. Ask your OD if you are getting Continuous Force Wires -

they are archwires that constantly exert pressure to your teeth and

help them move that much faster. I've been in braces for 3.5 months

now, and my teeth have moved fast. I noticed the gap in between my two

upper front teeth close in the first week alone. I'm progressing faster

than I think my OD expected me to; he has changed my wires every four

weeks. I'm having my surgery by next June; I'm having a BSSO to set

back my mandible and a LeFort 1-piece to advance my maxilla forward, as

I not only have an underbite but also Maxillary Hypoplasia. I have an

appointment with my OMS in December so he can see the progress I've

made. Sounds like you and I will be surgery-buddies. Take care and hang

in there! ~~~ Diane (Idaho)
