Guest guest
I have had a couple of crappy days. My husband is in Tennesse for 6wks and he calls yesterday to tell me that he got orders (he is in the AirForce). He leaves in May for a whole year. This sucks, after 15yrs I actually still like having him around. HAHA Anyway, to relate this to our group, when he gets done we may have to move. This means that unless I don't have to spend too long in braces, I will have to find a new surgeon in a new place. There is a chance that we will go to Europe (I loved it so much when I was a kid) and I would love this, but in that case, I would have to see the military docs and would not really have a choice in who I would see. I worried so much last night I couldn't get to sleep, then I over slept and was late to work. I'm just venting and working with a lot of what-ifs. Obviously, I have some control issues. HAHA Thanks for letting me worry out loud. Rene`
Guest guest
Rene: I read your husband is in the Air Force. I am actually active duty here at -Patt and I am having this whole surgery done here. I was a little skeptical at first, but after talking with about 50 patients <I know ... I just didn't want to be a test subject>, I feel very comfortable with them. Have you ever thought about having a military MTF (Medical Treatment Facility) do your work? It is 100% free. My surgeon just got back from 6-months in Iraq where he did a great deal of trauma cases so hopefully I am a 'breeze' for him. I know here that they see dependents as well. There are about 125 of us seeing Ortho and Surgery together. Not sure where you are, but just wondered if you looked into it. I have put both my wife and daughter in braces (costing $8000) and they could have done it for free at the clinic. UGH!!! Just a thought and option. > I have had a couple of crappy days. Guest guest
Rene, Lets try to think of the positives of this situation: 1) If I'm not mistaken going the military doctor route is cheaper (another board member had just had her surgery performed by a military doctor when I first joined and was thrilled with the results) 2) I can't recall what procedure you're having but much of the maxilofacial profession was first practiced on soldiers whose jaws had been busted during combat (e.g. the le forte if i'm not mistaken). Presumably then a military doctor would be very competent. 3) If you do have to go to Europe well then you can come and visit me and Italy and I'll treat you to a glass of wine from my fiance's winery:-) I can imagine how frustrating this must all be to you, starting with one doctor and then having to change and not even have any control over who you get. What ever happens, make sure that if you don't feel at your ease with your assigned doctor that you not hesitate to request for another one. Good luck! Sara > I have had a couple of crappy days. Guest guest
That is funny, my dad is at -Patt tonight. He's on his way to our family reunion and that is his half way point. I lived there when I was a very young child. Our dental office does not see dependents. There is nowhere close by that does. We are at Seymour now. I guess, I just like having an option as far as who will do the surgery. Control issues. HAHA. Do you have an option. It's been so long since we have been anywhere that had more than a clinic. Right now, I am trying to get Tricare to pay for part of the braces. Maybe we will end up at -Patt and all this will be free. Rene` > > I have had a couple of crappy days. Guest guest
We are actually putting Italy on our list. Not Aviano (not sure if that is spelled right), but another. I can't remember the name. I would love a glass of wine. In fact, I could use one now. It has been a heck of a couple days. You are right. There are some very competent military doctors. I just really like my ortho and OS. I guess I will just have to be assertive if I don't feel at ease. Yes, it is a lot cheaper, it's free. Thank you for your kind and supportive words.
