Hi Rene

No question here is a dorky one! What you see in the pictures is

stitching. I had stitching all across my top and upper gum line.

Thankfully I wasn't wired shut but banded shut. I was very tightly

banded for about 10 days (I couldn't open my mouth at all and had the

splint) then for 3 weeks I was still banded but on less tight elastics

that allowed me to at least get some more liquid in. At 3 and half

weeks post op my splint was taken out. My OMS would have liked to have

kept it in for longer but I was leaving NYC to return home to Italy and

so convinced him to take the wretched thing out. I have ever since been

wearing two elastic bands for support only at night when I sleep (I'm 3

months post op on the 6th of Sept). As of today I'm supposed to stop

wearing the elastics until I see my OMS next Thursday. He wants to see

whether my jaw will shift without the support bands. Fingers crossed it

won't!

Thanks so much for your compliments Rene:-) I'm very pleased with how

the surgery went and don't regret going through with it even though at

times it was very trying. I wish you the best of luck and don't

hesitate to holler if you need to vent or have any other questions.

Thanks.
