Hi Everyone,

I wanted to know what others have experienced regarding numbness. My

bottom lip right down to my chin is totally numb as well my gums along

my lower jaw.

Is there anything that one can do to help this??

Thanks

Tanja

  • 4 weeks later...

I read your email and I also had the same surgery you did 4 weeks ago but this

was my 4th surgery in a year. I can tell you that this surgery was easier on me

than the others. I am only numb after 4 weeks on my upper lip and gums, and a

little on the left side of my nose/cheek area (not much though there) the upper

lip is numb and itchy..so it must be healing too..however my last 3 surgeries I

was numb for quite some time..I guess its all different...

Dont get discouraged because you too will heal it may just take longer as it did

me before

good luck and happy healing

4 weeks ago I had a Maxillary Le Fort Osteotomy (my upper jaw cut

into 4 pieces and widened), and a Mandibular Osteotomy (my lower jaw

cut and moved forward).

Anyway, I am still numb in both the upper and lower lips (somewhat

expected), but my entire nose and cheeks (just under the eyes and next

to the nose) are also completely numb. I'm curious to know from

others that have had similar procedures how long this numbness lasted

for them.

Thank you

Hi , this is definetely an issue that alot of people find is

the worst part of this surgery, at least it was/is for me. I'm 8

weeks now and have some feeling back in my lip & chin, it kind of

comes back at different times for the left and right side, which is

wierd. My right side started earlier than my left side, which really

scared me because I thought my left side may have been permanently

damaged. The feeling is definetely not back to normal, but I can feel

it sloowwwwllly returning. I have a vague sensation on my left lower

lip but I can't feel temperature at all. My OS told me 3-6 months.

But I'm happy I have a little bit. I can't remember when it started

to come back, but my OS told me that I shouldn't expect too much

before the 2 month mark. My gums are still numb too. So, hang in

there .... you're not alone, most people are numb and everyone's

feeling comes back at different times.
