Friends

Imagine my surprise when I get a phone call on my cell phone at about 9 pm,

and a friend that lives NE of Little Rock, says, “Where are you, Heifer???”

I tell her, I’m at my sister in law’s, celebrating Christmas with Fred’s

family. “ Where are you?”

To which she replied, “Sitting in your driveway! I’ve come to spend

Christmas with you.”

I’m sure glad she had my new cell phone number. I’ve only had it 2 weeks. If

she’d called 5 minutes earlier, she wouldn’t have gotten me, because Fred

called from Afghanistan, and we were playing pass the phone around for

nearly an hour. He got to talk to all his family for a few minutes each.

That was another wonderful gift, which I could share with all of them.

I flew down the back roads, 35 miles in 45 minutes, getting home.

Fortunately, I had left the back door unlocked, and she could get into the

house, mess that it is, and not have to sit in her car waiting for me.

What a wonderful Christmas surprise! This has to be one of the best presents

one could get…a friend who loves you enough to drive 350 miles, just to

surprise you, and make sure you aren’t alone on Christmas. I really didn’t

mind that I was going to be alone, but this is a really special gift, and I

will cherish it forever. Tomorrow night, we’re going to go driving around to

see Christmas lights. And she doesn’t know it, but I’m taking her someplace

nice for dinner. I know she’ll have to leave early enough Christmas Day to

get home and go to work on Friday.

I love very much, and now I know how much she loves me.

And you guys have shown me how much you love me, sight unseen.

You may not believe this, but it has been a very special and memorable

Christmas for me.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and may the spirit of the season be with

you all through the year.
