AvaMarie,

Hey. Yes, IGF-1 is most definitely growth related. It will tell how

much GH your body is making. It is hard to explain, so I copied

something for you from a website. Here it is:

IGF-1 is measured to help diagnose the cause of growth abnormalities

and to evaluate pituitary function. IGF-1 levels reflect integrated

GH status and, along with GH provocation tests, are used to help

diagnose GH deficiency. These tests, while generally ordered in

children suspected of GH abnormalities, may also be used in adults

with GH deficiency. IGF-1 levels and the measurement of GH also

provide information related to GH Insensitivity (GHI).

has a high level of IGF-1. So, his body is making plenty of

GH to be growing, he just doesn't. It is very complicated, but you

can tie GH into glucose levels in the system, too. Seems as though GH

and glucose are interrelated. I am unsure of how they work together,

but for example, has a high Leptin level. This is indicating

insulin resistance, which in turn makes him GH resistant, too. And,

all of this stems from him being too chubby. I wish I could explain

things better, but it is complicated. In our instance, we have to

get slimmed down, and that should resolve the insulin

resistance and GH resistance issues he is currently experiencing.

There are some on here who have had their childrens pituitary checked

because of their IGF-1 levels. Jodie Cals had to have

tested for this, and if I remember right, Briggs will have

her daughter checked for it, too. High IGF-1 can indicate a

pituitary problem such as hyperthyroidism, I think??

Gosh, this is all very complicated, but if you do a web search, it

may be able to explain things better for you. Some of it is over my

head, but in a nutshell if the levels are high, your body has plenty

of GH, if they are low, then it can indicate GH defficiency.

OH Boy Jodi,

I think you just gave me a window of what Dr. H will say when all of

these IGF1 and IGFBP3 tests, come back. My child is chubby as well,

and also refuses to grow. I am very happy Dr. H is checking all of

these things because no one has ever checked this out before.

I guess all the testing she did will relate to growth or lack of!!!!

Thank you so much.
